Went to the BLM adoption yesterday and they had loads of really friendly, curious, playful youngsters! There were so many at the fence demanding attention I was reminded of Chester everywhere I turned.
I spent most of my time with the yearlings. They had a nicely boned, lightly frosted blue roan, and a light bay with lots of chrome.. he stood out in the pen because he was clearly a confident young man who carried himself really nicely! He was very tempting! They even had a cute little curly bay gelding!
In fact there was a lady looking at him and a curly mare. Many volunteers and her friends were steering her towards the yearling because.. this is only her second horse and first mustang and the mare is 6 and was just gathered in october!
She is from Silver Peak HMA near Esmerelda, NV. She is low man in her pen and everytime she went to eat the little mares would run her off. I just felt so bad for her! The BLM folks were hoping to find an experienced adopter for her.
So of course I called Angi who talked to Laurie and James... I sent some phone pics and we debated.. Kendall showed up and liked her too. So I adopted her and she is going to go to Angi's house and we are all going to work on gentling her.
We are looking for a good name for her. I had no idea they are registering and tracking the BLM curlys! My stangs have names that include a mention of their adoption. So June 22 Symphony is Symphony Solstice, and Chesters is Feb 12th, (Valentine adoption) is Valentine Gesture. So this new girl is also from a Valentine adoption so including Valentine or something to do with Valentine is OK. I had Esmerelda stuck in my head, imagining it as a sort of Gypsy like. It actually means Emerald, and then I realized she is from Esmerelda NV so that was kind of weird but neat.
I really didn't need another neither did Angi but she is big enough for James, Kendall, or I to ride when she's ready.
