Does any one know what it would cost to publish a book?
Would anyone be interested in making a book about all of the rescues?
So many of you have such heartwarming and heartbreaking stories to tell. I think it would be great to make a book with stories and pictures of the rescues.
Maybe people would buy them and it would be a way to add money to the angel fund.
What do you think?

There are few few great books about rescues and there appears to be a good market for them. It would be a wonderful fund raiser to help our horses!
There are several self publishing companies now where it is a do it yourself deal. They just print and bind. You need to do the marketing/pr.
We can certainly have anyone submit short stories about their experiences and start the gathering ;D

There was a gal on a newfoundland dog list several years ago that put together a book of stories about newfoundlands.........it was call 99 Newfies. It took her well over a year to collect the stories, write them up, edit, print and get it ready to market. My point is: It can be done! Just takes someone really dedicated to head it up, and then everyone else to follow thru with stories...................

I guess i need to find out exactly how many people are interested in writing and submitting their stories for a book.
Not very many responses so far. Any ideas how to get people on the wagon?

I think this is a great idea. It would take a lot of dedication and effort, but I think it would be worth it. Does anyone from the original CBER board remember who it was that wanted to put a newsletter/magazine together? I don't think she had a publishing background, but may have had editing experience.

I have writing and editing experience. I will help.
First step is to get a book more or less together--let's think about 20 stories or so. When we get that much together (along with photos), I'll get in touch with one of the horse specialty publishers to see if they want to do it. (If they aren't interested, we can always do it ourselves, but it's better--cost/marketing/etc.--if a publisher in the biz does it.)
We will make money ONLY if it sells, no matter which way we do it. (Your Christmas Present shopping will be solved for years to come. lol)
I wasn't the person who wanted to put together a newsletter/magazine. I think it was a CBER BOD idea to replace the BB, or the smoke signals they ordinarily used to communicate with their supporters.

I believe that dustyroads (?) was a person willing to step up for a magazine or newsletter...

I think some of the threads tell a very poignant story as well...the struggle of our own members to make a difference during shipping days, the joy and the anguish that we have all felt when a favorite is saved or lost...
A day in the life of a rescue organization....a good day, a bad day.....the worries of feeding the rescued, paying the bills if donations are scarce....the responsibility...
Our horse obituaries... and all the foals born to mares pregnant on the feedlots or brought starving to rescues...

I agree cybercat.
I think the book should make people aware of what it takes and means to rescue an animal. I think a lot of people truly believe it is only the old, lame and untamed animals that end up in a rescue situation. When in truth, it is not.

any and all. If you have a story and pictures to share, we'd like to put them in the book.
I think most of the rescuers have multi animal rescues and from more than one source; CBER, BLM, Auctions, Rez, etc...
Please share
