Ok - so I wasn't sure where to put this. She doesn't really fall under the "horses that need our help now" category - she is well loved and taken care of - and not a rescue. But from time to time I get contacted by people wanting my help to place a special needs horse.
This mare is 15, just over 14 hands, very healthy, sound, very sweet and loves people. Chestnut with stockings and blaze. Beginners ride her with no problem, she loads, stands for the farrier, bathes - you name it. Her owners are selling their property and are beginning to look for options for her - but she is not at risk. They have advertised her for $1000 to deter anyone looking to dump her at auction.
Here's the kicker (and why they asked for help) - she is extremely herd bound, to the point of being dangerous if you are riding her (and the other horse leaves) and where she will exhaust herself pacing if her buddy is removed from the field. Owner says they've tried everything - have never been able to fix it. If she's with another horse, beginning children ride her with no problem. Just don't take away her friend! She is sweet and kind, doesn't try to bluff kids etc.
In addition - she's claustrophobic and must be kept in pasture - not stalled.
If someone who is experienced enough can take her in - she is free to approved home. Contact me if you think you're interested - and I will get you in touch with the owner. It sounds like a wonderful horse - and as long as you are aware of her vices - wouldn't be hard to deal with. The owner says she is also great as an ONLY horse - no buddy - then no herd - no problem. ;D
Feel free to move this thread if you think it needs to be elsewhere...
