OH...they wanted my grandkids horse, he's 10 yo and dead broke..not for sale or anything, (has a bad tendon, just for the little guys)..also my well marked appy's...they want something for nothing...and that is what their getting NOTHING fill better now, thanks for your time...chatty

I love you Chatty!!! You're a gal after my own heart. Blow them off. I have those folks all the time too... they usually pull up in a Expedition or F350 Power Stroke.... hmmmm They're usually looking for the "black gelding, about 7 or so, bombproof for the kids, foundation bred (or at least looking), registered, sound, healthy..... ohh... and we only have $250 to spend..."
P.S. - "do you deliver?"

The right person will come along for the right horse. I have experienced people like what you are talking about. Hang in there- all people don't suck.

Don't feel bad Chatty, I had a guy tell me that Finn is worthless the other day and that if I have any problems with him I should just beat him.....nice huh??
Just blow them off, your babies are worth way more than that!

a peson that can't or won't give you a fair amount for your babies are not going to affored the monies to care for them..it average us 1600.00 a year per horse + vet costs... Kyton was very abused,,skinny and afraid of people..he hadn't been with or seen another horse for 6 mon.s (the amount of time the lady had him)..kepted in a pen and only seen someone or thing when feed..he is happy running with the others and wants his treat..still a little uneasy with over loving, but wants it.. Tek has been past from owner to owner after his abuse (trainer, not owner)..first owner wanted to best for him after the abuse..I don't think they knew what has happen to him...last owner, very nice people, but had him for 2 mon's...took on more than they could handle... Serafini, she's just my little girl...
I love them all...

I weed through about 20 people for every 1 good home. If they have trouble coming up with a couple thousand to purchase a horse, they probably don't have the means to pay vet bills. I ask pointed questions like "If this horse came to you and next week ran up a $500 vet bill because of an injury, how would you handle that?" You find out really fast. The good homes don't blink. The other good question to ask is: "If you took my horse and next year it came up permanently lame and could never be ridden again, what would you do?" The good homes again don't blink, they answer something like "well, I would retire it, just like I did my gelding 15 years ago."
If you ever hear the words "got rid/get rid" out of the mouth of any prospective home, get rid of them, fast!
Ask them what has happened with the horses they have owned in the past. I nearly placed a horse with a woman once, a Pony Club mom. But I asked this question, and she told me this horrible story about how she gave a horse she loved to a riding school, which in turn set it loose on thousands of acres of public land when it became lame! She drove down, found the horse months later, and ended up leaving it there to die. I could not "get rid" of this lady fast enough.

People who tell you that your horse isn't worth much, well, they are the same people who dump a horse at auction when it is too old/lame/much work. I'm glad you sent them packing.
