So, you've just adopted a beautiful horse, who comes home with the unfortunate name of "Spuds" or "Bozo". You want to choose a really beautiful name for your new best friend, but you aren't sure what kind of name to choose. Should you go with a descriptive name, like "Stormcloud", or "Mahogany"? Should you use a human name like "Frederic", or a place name like "Sonoma"? Hey, don't ask me! LOL!
BUT, I came across this really neat site while I was pondering new names for my girls, and I wanted to share it with all of you. It is a site dedicated to the preservation of Native American Languages; they have basic vocabulary lists in most of the North American languages on the site. The best part is that for a $10 donation (which they use to help preserve these languages from extinction), they will offer 3 suggested names in the language of your choice. You tell them what kind of animal you are naming, whether it is male or female, if you want the name to have a specific meaning, and any other preferences you have. They will then give you the 3 suggested names. If you don't have a language preference they'll choose for you. They need 2 weeks to get the names to you.
I didn't use the service for my first 2 girls, because I found the site after they had already come home and I really wanted them named! But I will ask for some name suggestions for Collista (I actually think that name is pretty, but sadly it reminds me of the ultra-anorexic Calista Flockhart, and that thought gives me the heebe-jeebies!)
Just wanted to share with you all!
