We have helped over 600 Premarin mares and foals since September 1999. In the next few months we are hoping to find homes for another 500 horses. This would not have been possible without a lot of help. In 2004 The Animali Farm was helped enormously by Bob & Johanna Coberly. They provided funding to build fences, buy our truck, pay for feed and other opperating expences. With the Coberlys financial help we were able to save over 260 horses in 2004. In addition to the funding from the Coberly family we received grants from Santa Barbara Foundation and Henry Mayo Newhall foundation. www.theanimalifarm.com/

They are great to work with. I have adopted a Thoroughbred/Percheron cross mare from them and I am hoping she will be with me in a couple of weeks.
Please take a look at their site. There are many pregnant mares that must be adopted by February 8th.

I adopted 3 Appaloosa mares through Animali in 2005. All three have turned out to be very nice horses.

Watermark, if one of those mare was bred to Spots in XS, we need to talk about any foals that showed up. One might need to come live with me! Boy does that stallion have color!

These mares are running out of time. If anyone is on the fence about adopting a horse, there are some beautiful mares and foals still in need.
Take a look, please! Lou

Spyder, all of the mares we got were open, but I know Spots in XS, and he is very cool!
I am heartsick that so many pg. mares are running out of time. Shame on the FORMER pmu ranchers, who had no right breeding these mares.....all of these ranches lost their urine contracts 2+ years ago (!)-----they have continued on breeding for no other reason than to produce a "foal crop." So sad. Frank, the appy breeder, should be ashamed of himself! He was once the largest Appy breeder in North America, possibly the world. 500 broodmares at one time.
The appies left really are the nicest ones. They have sold them off each year, starting with the least quality mares. So these are probably well worth taking on! I would be happy to answer questions to anyone on the fence! Animali does a good job.
Our mares were by Mighty Hulk, The Executionist, and OK Page Lad. The Mighty Hulk line is fantastic. We actually ended up with a dam and her 5 year old daughter, total fluke. All three horses are doing great. One was just in a riding clinic this past weekend with her new owner, a mare broke to ride at age 7, and practically wild when I got her at age 5.

The Appy's are absolutely STUNNING!!! Do you know which ones are still available?

Sunni, they are very prompt about removing the horses once they have an adopter, so I think it's safe to assume that any listed horse is available. Are you in the market?

Yes, Gratefulknits is right. Normally, if a horse is still listed but has been adopted it should list above their name that they are adopted. Since they are scrambling this weekend to get as many adopted as possible, there could be some lag time before they get to pull them from the available to the adopted lists however.
There are many many beautiful horses that still need help.

Even better news. The deadline was once again extended to the 18th and the amazing folks at Animali have managed to get all pregnant mares adopted! There are still several foals, geldings and open mares that need homes and the prices have been reduced.
Both of the Belgian geldings that PEC wrote about that had offers already from the meat buyers were adopted. One of them is coming to Sonoma County.

Thought I'd let everyone know that Animali has posted lots of new mares that need homes. Some foals and geldings are in there, but most are pregnant mares. They are absolutely beautiful!!! A couple of my favorites, as if I could ever afford then: Look at those feet .

15740.1 I'm sure most of you are aware of the plight of the PMU mares/foals now that so many PMU farms are going out-of-business in Canada. These beautiful horses are being sold at auctions with approximately 60% or more going to slaughter. Others are purchased by the meat industry to breed to keep the cycle going. So many of the PMU mares/foals are draft horses or draft crosses. Because of their size, the meat buyers can make alot of money off one horse. A fantastic rescue effort is going on that involves about 9 PMU ranches in Alberta, Canada that are either selling off their entire herds or are down-sizing. The ranches using draft horses have given the rescue effort a deadline of Oct. 29th to buy/place most of their un-registered draft and draft cross mares or else these animals will be sold at the auctions. The entire farms are being sold so all horses must be gone! It's an incredibly short time to find homes for about 80 animals and raise the money to ship them all to central drop-off points. A great non-profit equine rescue organization located in Santa Maria, California is trying their best to place all of these animals. Please visit their website at www.theanimalifarm.com and take a look at these wonderful horses that need our help. Donations are being accepted to help reduce the price of transporting these animals to their new homes. It cost approximately $850.00 to transport each horse from Canada. That includes Coggins testing, vet check and border crossings. Each horse available has a page that will list the horse's info and price. The PMU rancher sets the price according to the horse's worth to him. There is such little time left to get these horses off the farms and away from their impending deaths at the slaughter houses. If any of you can find it in your hearts to make a donation to the Animali Farm's Blessed Broodmare Fund, your donation will help reduce these horses' transportation costs. You can make either a general donation to the group or you can specify which horse your donation is to help. Better yet, if anyone can purchase one (or more) of these horses and provide them a home away from the only life they've known in the PMU barns it would be so great!!! If you can't give a draft mare a permanent home, please think about purchasing a mare and providing her with foster care until she foals and a permanent home can be found. THEY JUST NEED TO BE PURCHASED BEFORE OCTOBER 29TH!!!! I run what is mainly a pet pig rescue/sanctuary in California. I also rescue mini horses. But there was something about the plight of these PMU mares/foals that 's really tugged at my heart. I am going to try and bring 8-10 of these horses here to my sanctuary. With a little shuffling around I can provide a decent area temporarily while I'm securing permanent homes for these beautiful creatures. There are Belgians, Percherons, Draft crosses, Fjord crosses all waiting for new homes. Most of these mares spent the spring/summer with draft stallions and could possibly be in foal for May 2008. Select younger mares, mainly 2 year olds, were bred to a registered thoroughbred stallion. Those foals are going to be some very nice sporty horses!!! Some mares are even trained to drive but most are just halter broke. All it will take will be about 80 or so families across this country to open their hearts to these mares. Please make a donation even if it's only $5.00-$10.00. Visit the website for much more info than what I've entered here. Send them an e-mail if you have any questions about their adoption process. I'm having such a hard time narrowing my choices down to 8-10. Hopefully I can help that many!!!! Let's make this rescue such a success and out-do the meat buyers. I thank you all for at least thinking about doing something. Working together, we can make a difference.

The Oct 29th deadline is drawing closer for these Belgian, Percheron and Draft Cross mares. They are beautiful animals and don't deserve being sent to the auctions and what lies beyond. If you can't adopt a horse outright please consider sending any donations to Jennifer at the Animali farm. Each donation helps reduce the horses' price possibly making it easier for someone else to adopt them. Those equine souls need our help. If you have an empty stall or room in your pasture for another horse (or two) please consider helping. Foster the horse until permanent homes can be found. The Animali Farm needs all our help to bring these 80 horses down here to safety.
