I am sure that many of you are familiar with the story of "Reggie" from the CBER board (which I cannot get on this past few days). I want to update everyone on the efforts to help Reggie.
Reggie was rescued at auction in Oregon a few months ago by Debi (CBER countrymouse), who outbid the slaughter buyer and paid $230 for Reggie. It turns out that this 20 year old grey OTTB gelding (show name Snowy Ridge, JC name Tizza Ridge Runner) is an old dressage schoolmaster, with extensive USDF scores to 2nd level. He was the Oregon Dressage Society Training Level Reserve Champion in the mid-90s.
After Debi rescued Reggie, she noticed blood in his urine. A vet was brought out and bladder stones were suspected. Reggie was referred to OSU.
I have taken on fundraising efforts to raise money for Reggie. His foster mom Debi is just not able to shoulder the burden of his vet needs. I personally paid the $300 bill for Reggie to be seen at Oregon State University on December 14 for a scope procedure & bloodwork. Reggie has a bladder stone the size of a ***softball*** and it nearly fills his unusually small bladder!!! Poor guy! His bloodwork and physical exam show him as otherwise healthy and a good surgery candidate.
Cost of the surgery ranges from $1800-$2500 at OSU. We have raised $410 thus far toward his surgery.
Can you help? A medical fund has been established with North Bay Horse Welfare, a non-profit organization. We are trying to raise the money by 12/31, as Reggie is in dire need of the surgery ASAP.
After Reggie recovers from surgery, he will be available for adoption to an approved home. He may make a REALLY nice lower level dressage horse for some young person. Debi says he is very sweet and gentle, and has put her 8 year old son up on him (although currently, he is unable to work or even exercise much, he has to be kept quiet so as not to irritate his bladder further).
Please visit my website at: www.horsehomepages.com/watermarkfarm and click on "Reggie's Vet Fund" for donation instructions and a running total of donations as they come in. Thank you very much!!!
