If it is the one I think it is, that would be Stacy. My question (which is just for fun!) is if you are competing in a reining competition and are not using reins, doesn't that miss the point? LOL - again this is purely for fun and debate.... I love the video of Stacy doing reinless reining and have it saved on my desktop - though I will have to say that I know people that if they could spend 8 hours a day on their horses, they could learn her technique. Just not so sure I could going out 2 times a week for a couple hours....

I think I have seen it too! There are days when I might get away with riding my horse without anything but much past the trot and I think I would lose him! LOL What fun that would be. I just wonder how you train them to do that?

We saw her at Equine Affair and she talked about how she trains them. It was great!

I just saw this video and it was great. I have to admit a growing fascination with reining such that I am searching for a trainer who will work with me. As a dressage rider, I look to reining for inspiration in my training!
I have to say that all the crappy DQ's (dressage queens) who use the "crank and spank" method need some watch someone like this Stacy Westfall. THAT's how dressage should look --- the tack should really just be window dressing.
I am working on using a neck ring with Ridge (my dressage horse), and it's so much fun.

I I am working on using a neck ring with Ridge (my dressage horse), and it's so much fun. I have seen your posts a couple times before. I think it is funny that you have a horse named Snowy Ridge and I have a horse named Rozzy Ridge, but I call him Roz. Anyway, how do you go about training a horse to be ridden with a neck ring? Is it just them being highly responsive your other aids such as weight, seat, and legs?

I am following the directions in a Linda Tellington-Jones book I have. You start riding as normal with your bridle and add the neck ring. You sort of tug on the neck ring for whoa, and use it like a neck rein for turns. It really helps lighten the horse's forehand. After they have the hang of the neck ring, you remove the bridle and ride off the neck ring. It's so much fun.
mta: obviously, you do use your other aids, too.
But that reining video --- wow. Amazing.
