LAST CHANCE CORRAL ( Foals )
Post by PEC on Feb 10, 2007, 9:04am
HI Folks - A member rescue needs some help ASAP:
This is an urgent request to help the "Last Chance Corral" in
Athens, OH to save 12 baby foals, giving them a chance at life!
This horse rescue is a wonderful non-profit group - 501(c)3 -
they have been doing this life-saving work for 20+ years.
It is "foal season" and the babies are steadily arriving at the
farm. They currently have (8) babies they are caring for, and
continue to purchase the foals during the season.
HERE IS THE IMMEDIATE NEED:
There are (12) baby foals waiting to be rescued! They range
from a few days old to a few weeks - They have been purposely
taken from their mothers - the "nursemare" - so another, more
valuable/expensive foal can nurse. The expensive foal's mother
leaves her foal in order to be quickly re-bred - It is a very
cruel practice, and sadly it occurs each foaling season.
These babies truly have this "one last chance." The average
cost for a foal to be "ransomed" is $250 - If we can help the
Last Chance Corral (LCC) to buy these babies from the men who
are holding them, they will be saved from going to a sale and
being slaughtered.
Since LCC works with the people holding these babies often, one
man will "hold" a check from them until funds arrive by mail.
The other man is not as "nice" but she is calling to see if
he'll hold them until Monday - We have the weekend to do this!
Please click on the website link below to learn about the
plight of these babies:

They have an "Intensive Care Barn" (also on the website), and
years of knowledge, all the right equipment, milk-replacer,
yogurt and medications to bring these precious babies through
the first days and weeks of their lives. When they stabilize,
there are many loving homes for them.
The LCC website does not have Pay Pal but you can send them a
check by mail on Monday, and send an email to Victoria Goss to
let her know what amount she can add to this foal rescue.

Those babies (plus one extra) were saved thanks to a tremendous effort by the Friends of Barbaro on TWR!!!
There will be a lot more foals to save before the end of the foaling season though.
