LAZY HORSE RESCUE~ DRAFT HORSE RESCUES AND ADOPTIONS ~ Saving one Life at a time.....
Located in Box Elder, South Dakota - about 10 miles east of Rapid City, and only about 5 miles from I-90 Exit 67.
May I introduce ourselves: Gabriele (Gabi) & Lee Falder.
We bought this property in 2003 and built this Ranch from scratch in 2004. (No - we are NOT rich by any means, just working VERY, VERY hard.)
We are well in our thirties, don't have any children, and animals mean the world to us - so we decided to do something meaningful with this property...
We rescue draft-horses, draft-crosses and every now and then the occasional light-horse as well.
LAZY HORSE RANCH is located on 80 acres with a 42' x 63' open barn, an additional run-in shed and 2 ponds.
THANK YOU for considering the adoption of a rescue horse....

WHAT WE DO - AND WHEN & HOW WE DO IT: The horse market changes constantly, meat-prices fluctuate throughout the year, transportation fees go up as gas-prices rise, cost for hay increases due to severe drought conditions, and Vet- and farrier fees go up regularly as well. That means that our costs to rescue these horses also fluctuate and keep going up. We must PURCHASE each and every one of these rescue horses to save them, in other words - pay CASH upfront. The cost varies depending on the horses, their weight, condition, training, and most importantly on what the situation is and where they come from. It is not uncommon to have to spend over $1000 to rescue a single horse, that we then have to care for and possibly rehabilitate for a longer period of time. Some horses we can adopt out for only a fraction of the total expenses, and never recover nowhere near of what we have invested in their purchase, transport, Vet bills, feed, hay, hoofcare, supplements and other costs. Some of our horses are adopted fairly quickly, others stay for several months or even a year before they find the perfect home, and some become lifetime residents. We are constantly taking in a wide variety of horses, from weanlings to seniors, from unhandled ones to fully trained horses, from light horses to draft-crosses to full drafts. Their adoption fees enable us to recoup a portion of our costs invested in each horse, and allows the rescue to continue saving lives by funding hay, feed, vet bills, and farrier expenses, all of which are quite expensive and make it even harder during the winter months.
This is a small private "family-rescue" and we operate entirely out of pocket - depending 100% on adoption fees, sponsorships and donations. Please try to be understanding, compassionate and generous. Contributions are very much needed and appreciated, and some higher adoption fees for some outstanding horses are essential. Generous offers for adoption fees, higher than the listed amounts, are ALWAYS very, very helpful and go 100% to the purpose of saving and caring for these wonderful horses !! Thank you.
