I just love this photo of Gary Luther (Bourbon/CBER) who was too crippled to even list for adoption by CBER (not serviceably sound). His story is pretty amazing. After being on the lot with Lola Mae ((Beverly/CBER), Ryan and Heidi begged Sam to allow them to list him as he was the sweetest boy. With 24 hours before truck-time, Sam gave them the green light to list him. Nobody had even looked at his additional photos, and my heart was stolen instantly. With a little cajoling from Maverick (Zora), I knew I couldn't let this one go. Below is a photo of Gary the day after he arrived at Tired Dog Ranch - full of lice, worms, and not enough good food or lovin'. Above is two months later, chasing his newest girlfriend, a Spanish Mustang named Shanti who I boarded for my friend, Simrat, who took the photo above. I won't be offended, upset, or even surprised if the photo isn't used. I just cannot stand to see a thread with no posts! And I wanted to share ... Modified to post one more spectacular photo of Gary, this time with Lola Mae:

We need to set up and before and after thread with pictures, write up of what the horse is doing now. That way we can let people know that just becouse a horse has been sent to slaughter and rescued doesn't mean the horses life is over. Just means the owner made a wrong decision. Pec can pictures of some of these horses be put on flyers ( with owners ok) so the public can see for them self what can be done . I have had people say to me you got that horse where, what is wrong with her. She wouldn't be there if she didn't have a problem.

LOL!!! You should see him right NOW!!! ROFL!!! he is ah...well... NOT so hot looking!!! lol!!!! he plays incessantly with the 2 year old gelding, and his mane is nearly all gone... that which is left, is standing up like it was roached... grrrrrrr... he is ... well.... rotund... at least 300 lb heavier than this pic... no joke... we weighed him when we gelded him this summer... he already packed on 200 + lb then, and he is bigger now... he is wider than my foundation QH mares he is in with... and his is short and stumpy!!! LOL!!! I keep jokin... he is gonna be MY riding horse!!! not so far to fall!!!! but he is gonna weigh as much as Taffy soon!!! I'll get some pics... his 4-6 in long winter fuzz... his forlock is down to his nose now... completely covers his eyes... I luv him to death... but he is growing up!!! LOL!!! new shoes on Sunday, so I'll get some good pics them... oh yea.... and he's a mud ball too.... babies + mud = mudball.

Piopico, Gary is sound! It is amazing. Before he arrived home last February, we all braced ourselves for the worst, assuming we would see a horse descending from Sharon and Dave's trailer who looked like he should be walking with a cane. Instead we saw Gary - the sweetest (yet pretty scared), scrappiest, skinny, full-of-lice, most likely abused little darling in the world. It took about two months of good food, lots of lovin', and simply letting him be a horse, and what we received is one of the most beautiful, POWERFUL movers in the herd who appreciates life to its fullest. I hate to make another Johnny Depp reference (see my other posts - sorry), but Gary Lou really reminds me of Cap'n Jack Sparrow - you cannot really tell if he "swings" as he acts just about as feminine as possible; yet you KNOW he's all man! (Gary likes to adorn his head with the longest tresses of oat hay and then walk around with a little swagger. Phileas seems pretty drawn to him, as do the ladies!) Gary is simply very special. And Beth, SUNDANCE IS A HOTTIE! Oh, my gosh - that is one stunning hunk of love. You know what? He and the beautiful horse up in the left-hand corner (Babydoll?) would make quite a couple! Both are simply beautiful and so full of life.

No ousting or jousting or anything of the sort from me, darling! I love to share, and I cannot think of any better place to share photos than on Gary's thread. I LOVE that photo of Sundance. He is gorgeous. How old is he?

We believe he is about `18 months old.. so, he has untiil next fall to be 'free', then he will just have to see how it is to tote my big buttocks about !!! we are also planning on training him to drive, as all good haffies should do... :-z0 He is sound, and will be able to do whatever we please of him, and I 'think' his personality is such that he will be a great ride too!!!
