We stopped at Petsmart in Lancaster yesterday on our way to Angi's and saw this ... animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/pic.asp?image_resolution=Thumb&image_id=A3597975So wha?? He is almost Ziggity's twin!! He was really sweet. They said he was adopted but returned because he chewed up some stuff in the people's yard. (well duh!! he's a lab pup all alone in a yard.. what was he supposed to do???) It was sooooo hard to walk away from him, but we already have 4 dogs! 4 cats! and the horses. I do not need another dog, I do not need another dog, I do not need another dog! BUT he has been there too long. I gave them my number and asked if they would have the shelter call me if he went last day.. but the volunteers said not to count on it. They were going to ask if they would hold him until next saturday and gave me his impound #. Did I mention I don't need another dog? Nudge and Ziggity already have to share me, and don't always like that. So Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what do I do? Besides pray he gets adopted... animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/AdoptDetails.asp?AnimalID=A3597975

I have 5 plus 2 poodles who visit. The good news is that no one wants to visit me! Had to stop there as the neighbors are on to me!

Tockita,
How do you know that you don't need another dog? Once he's on the property, you'll wonder how your family ever got along with out him.
He's a beautiful dog and he' s a puppy so he shouldn't be too hard to place. If you were to get him out, neuter him and put him up for adoption, he'd be placed in no time, unlike the JRT/chihuahua that I seem to be stuck with.

I should have known I'd get no real help resisting here. Anne he's already been nuetered since they adopted him out once already and he's been back there since the 7th with no takers.
My mother thought I was nuts to get Ziggity and has already decided to move to GA (she is tired of triping over my dogs, being pestered by my cats, and left alone with them while I go play with horses.) So to bring home another dog before she leaves.. well I DO love my mom.. and finally asked her had she not known me my whole life? Did she really think I would change?

Ok. I'm no help here. I have worked dog rescue for years. He's just another black dog and the shelter is plumb full of black dogs. Personally, I love them. I had 3 of them until last month when one needed to be euthanized. They blend in very nicely with the other 2. I always had to count to make sure they were all back in the house. . .3 blacks and 2 other colors.
After you get past 3, another really doesn't matter. I love my big dog family.
At this age, he's very placeable in private hands. . .not in a shelter. Up here, if they actually do call you because your name is on the shelter paperwork as Call before PTS, then you have one business day (usually their open hours, 4 - 6 hrs) to get in there and pull him. If not, he's euthanized. If they run out of space before then, he's euthanized. Time is not your friend.

Well I am no help either......I'm a sucker for any animal (did I tell you that I slammed on the breaks the other night and almost got rear ended because a cat was sitting up in the middle of the street totally oblivious to to traffic? Hubby was not very happy....especially since I was driving his truck.....lol) Anyway, that face....he's staying "PUHLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE Kathy! Take me home!!!! Guidedogs.com has a list of power chewer approved puppy toys that I'd be awesome with, I'm a Lab, forever loyal, I'll blend in and be good, and I if need be I trust you to re-home me!!!!!" Let me know know you need that approved toy list......lol (And, I wouldn't wait on the shelter to call you......did we add an "other animals in need thread?" here? He could be our inaugural puppy if not!

He is not home, he is still at the shelter. I have called and spoken to a very nice gentleman and explained my situation. (live/work 50 miles away) He took my name and phone # and put it into the computer that I will come get him if he is there on saturday, but that it is OK to adopt him out before that, but DO NOT EUTH HIM!! Hopefully they will keep an eye on that note, or someone will take him before sat. If he's there I need name help. Dogs are Sunny Sunshine, Nudge, Fawkes (aka Foxyrita, and Faux Dog ) plus the Ziggity Do Dog. Our Big black dogs will then number 3 Nudge, Zig, and Tar Baby? Remus? Briar Bear? Fidgit?

Why don't you take him and rehome him? (yeah, we all know how THAT works!) I find that if I keep all the animals a similar color, my husband has no idea how many we have.
But the rehoming thing is possible.

Had a thought how about Ziggity, and Fidgity, the Do Dogs... Twin Avengers working together to rid my house of all toys that squeek and any furniture not guarded zealously enough?

Stac when my company did United Way I always designated to Guide Dogs. I think about them a lot still and sure do miss the updates on the classes and the heartwarming puppy raiser and working dog tales. I need to send them a little something, thanks for reminding me.

I like Fidget!!!!! Especially w/ the Lab in him, it would suit him!!!
Tock - would you like me to pass on some of the phase reports as we get them??? I'd be happy to do so. Sakura will probably get re-called for formal training in May or June....I'm guessing. I can't believe we're on the downside already. I'm not ready to let her go, but need to get there. There are days when I think she'll make the most amazing guide and be somebody's best friend, as well as their eyes, and then there are days when I just wish I didn't have to let her go....she's just an amazing, amazing dog.
