So - this is the next auction? Does anyone know the meat buyers? Or who regularly buys and ships to the CBER feedlot? It would be very cool to save funds between now and then - buy them - and keep the horses from that stinking feed lot to begin with....

Supposedly they don't allow 'meat buyers' at the woodburn auction.
This is what I heard from someone after the last auction was over, she was very concerned about some of the horses. I believe she was told this by someone working at the yard.
I do know they have a couple of regular buyers that purchase horses, work with them, then later sale them at the auction again.

I have a friend that works the horse sale at Woodburn Auction. She told me that the auction was mostly Valley folks buying horses, and no meat buyers.. but I have not witness this for myself. But, I have know this lady for years and she is a good soul..

How many mini's can you fit in your "mini van"? The people we sat behind at the last auction were pretty funny. Apparently at a previous auction her friend did buy a mini and she took it home in her van. The husband of the buyer said the ONLY way she could buy a horse was if it fit in the car. LOL, bet he picks his words better next time.

I take one of my minis to the vet in the back of my van frequently! The seats come out and a tarp goes in with a fluffy fuzzy rug on top to soak up anything...he has a little ramp to walk up through the side door...He can stand up inside there just fine, and faces forward telling me how to drive... It is TOO MUCH fun to go through a Drive-thru window with Canello in the back! His nose comes up over my shoulder and the people freak out! They think its a dog at first...
I have not taken my kicking wench in my van though...I don't trust her! and just haven't tried the youngest one yet. (We've had llamas in there too, but they have to kush (kneel) down.
AND LADIES...YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT FEAR IS UNTIL YOU HEAR YOUR HORSE TINKLING IN THE BACK OF YOUR PASSENGER VEHICLE!!!!!

LOL Do you have pics of your mini's to share? My daughters just love the story of Panda, the seeing eye horse. I sure wouldn't trust our little spud not to knock my head on something.

Can you believe that I do NOT have pictures of them? Actually the story is that they are embedded somewhere inside our computer, but I don't know where they are or how to download new ones...our digital camera was broken and we now have a new one and still haven't quite figured it out yet...yadda, yadda, yadda....so I really want to get my workaholic hubby to teach me how to do some of this stuff, but catching us both at the same time with free time is tough...

There are meat buyers at ALL auctions. They may be more discreet at some than at others. They buy at Roseburg, Eugene, etc... it just depends on the going price, what's available etc - if they get a good deal.

I guess what this gal told me that we are getting the belgian from (and it is all hearsay from her) there is a guy regularly at the Woodburn Auction named "Pinky" and she knows he sells horses he gets at the auction to kill-buyers if he cannot unload them on someone else. He bids on the draft horses.

Yeah, there's meat buyers at the Woodburn auction. They're just pretty discreet about it.
I live about 8 miles from woodburn, and I have a pasture where a few horses could stay overnight if somebody were to find one that they liked there...nudge...nudge...

It would be awesome to get a system going to do this... once we got a real vibe for who's who @ the auctions. Get a fund going to "bail" a few - a temp home like earlybp - we could save SO many that way. (Before the FLO got the chance to jack the price up) Timing would be tough though - and finding homes to get them out of the temp holding. I would LOVE to do this...

The hard part is the urgency. It's easier to get people to step up when the alternative is the meat bolt. A lot harder when there is a safe pasture.
