Im wondering if anyone could give me a name and number of a good trainer in the Pierce County area? I think that Turtle needs just a good refresher in the basics, which I dont have the space or knowledge to do. He has gotten so much better with being apprehensive when you touch his hindquarters and is really settling into his new environment. He doesnt anticipate being hit any longer. I have been working with him to desensitize him to ropes, etc. Im getting the brush off from my husbands friend that is a trainer, so Im at the point that I would just prefer to go to somebody that will give both me and Turtle the time. The groundwork is there, and I just think that he has gotten the bluff on somebody and gotten away with things and that somewhere in his past has been beaten. I live in Graham so any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
Added, Im going to be taking him to the local fairgrounds this weekend to work with him under saddle. Just longing him & tacking him up. He has gained his weight great, feet & teeth are good. I have taken him on several walks and during those walks asked him to back up & give to pressure. Nothing much spooks this horse, he is calm around cars, great leaving his horse buddies. He will walk right up to me in the pasture for loves. I think we are moving in the right direction, does this sound good to you guys? Im counting on your advice & knowledge, thanks for the help.

I don't have a trainer in that area but I do know of a great trainer who was chosen for the Great Mustang challenge and was featured in the last John Lyons magazine too. Her name is Susan Kirtk and she is located in Oakville, Wa. She is a great trainer and very good with problems. But willing to work with other issues too as well as general training. She raises her own Quarter Horses and is a truly wonderful person. Her information is: Susan Kirk at SKatBlackRiverR@aol.com She owns and operates BLACK RIVER RANCH in OAKVILLE, WA. She attended the Mane Event last year and also the Horse Expo in Ridgefield again this year. Great person and reasonable rates too.

Absolutely: Val Sievertson is in Eatonville. She lives just up the road from the Pioneer Farm, which is a park now I think.. her husband's name is Mark and she should be in the book...her family donated the Pioneer Farm and she used to run the equine/driving portion of the program, so if you can't find her number in Directory Asst. call them and I'm sure they'll have it. Val does TEAM work on the horses, which is Tellington-Jones Equine Awareness Movement, and she also works with frightened riders etc.

If anyone has a young horse who needs to be started, the woman who is doing Jade is fantastic. She prefers that they don't know much so she can start them the way she likes. She is wonderful, kind and gentle. She can be riding them in a few days. She is not cheap. $1000 a month. And don't forget our own Jamie! She does wonderful things with a horse and has started her own training center! I believe Hil knows of a man in the Gig Habor area that she thinks is very good as well.

I have a fabulous trainer who is running a new client special for less than $600 a month full training/full care board. PM me for details. She has my highest recommendation. This is in the Yelm area.
