Rocky - 18 y/o- 14.3h- Registered Arabian Gelding

We were contacted about Rocky before the owner called the FLO, but due to limited space and funds CBER can not take him in. Rocky Must find a home due to owners illness. Rocky's owner must place this horse due to illnesses, she is under a time constraint so Rocky needs to find a new home sooner than later. 18 year old, 14.3h, bay registered Arabian (Russian & Polish breeding) gelding. Loves attention, easy to catch, haul, shoe and clip. Nice manners and responds to voice, very responsive on halter. Gentle sweet disposition and gets along well with other horses. Has been show English Pleasure, has been ridden on trails. Has been maintained on supplements. Rocky needs his teeth floated and should be looked at by a vet to determine if he is rideable.

Any idea as to why a vet needs to determine if he is ridable?
