I went to the feedlot today, and got to meet the 4 fillys. You guys......these girls are so nice. When I entered the pen, it was like a filly parade behind me. Seriously, they were all following me! They are ALL nice looking girls, curious, appeared to be sound as a dollar from what I could tell, and not that scared of humans. Whoever takes these girls are really getting some nice babies!

I am soo glad I adopted this mare. She is such a sweetheart, and really likes my husband. When we go into her pasture, she comes over and puts her head on his shoulder. Likes scratches, comes to the fence every time I go outside. Is learning what grain is. Man, when she got off the trailer, she was soooo skinny and dirty and cut up, I thought, what have I gotten myself into?? But we are thrilled. She is going to be a great horse. Is putting weight on quickly and looking better every minute. I don't think anyone's ever even brushed her. Well, we're in love and I think she loves us too.

update. Concha is now a pretty roan with white and brown spots. She is so cute. She got sick again due to bad weather and not accepting a blanket, so she's finishing up another round of antibiotics. She lets me brush her all over now. Sometimes picks up her feet. Working on sacking her out and that is coming along great. She is a jumpy horse, but she really trusts me. When she gains a little more weight and health I'll start doing some round pen, but not too much since she's still so young. She sure looks different! She has put on a lottttt of weight since we got her, but her backbone still sticks out a little. We love her!

I did, that's what prompted the update and pics...wish I knew more about his breeding so I can get concha papers. I hope someone adopts him. The fillies at my mom's house are doing great. They are much more calm than Concha. Raven's even had a saddle put on her. But then, they've had much better weather there than here. It's funny, my avatar is concha, hardly looks like the same horse:)

Concha's latest picture is on Ebony and Ivory's thread. Now that she's put on enough weight, I've started to work with her. Today for the first time I took her into the sand arena. We had to walk out of the pasture and leave her new friends, walk along the road, over a bridge and into a gate into the arena. She did all this with flying colors. We worked on leading, backing, turning both directions on lead line, and whoa and stand. Then worked on walk and trot off the line, in circles and down the arena. She has incredible movement, very forward smooooth trot. I can't wait to ride her. There were lots of distractions(windy blowing flags, other horses in nearby pasture) so I worked on paying attention, and not crowding(now that's she's not so jumpy anymore, she wants to be in your lap). She learns very quickly and seems eager to please. A very good first lesson. Also, she always comes when called and the other day, I don't know if she meant to do this, but we were trying to herd a cow out of her pasture, and I pointed at the cow and said, "go get that cow Concha", well, she looked at me like, ok, and ran off after the cow herding and nipping it. Pretty funny.

Got a saddle on Concha today!!! She did great! Stood quietly while I put the pad and saddle on and even when I cinched her up. Worked more on ground work, longing, turns, backing etc. I think she looks Gorgeous under saddle! I also tied her to a very sturdy hitching post and had her stand with saddle on for a while. Everything went great, things are moving along nicely!! Will post pics when I get them.

Did you mention that you lived in or near Potter Valley? I spent many summers as a child on a ranch in Potter Valley. That's where I first learned how to ride. Very fond memories! Haven't been there in many, many years, is it still a sleepy little hamlet?

Thank you...I think she's pretty too. Been working with her more on tying(she decided to pull back a few times yesterday) and saddling and longeing. She is doing great. Yesterday I thought I'd try an english saddle on her. Put it right on, cinched up and longed her around in it. No bucks! She is also becoming lighter in the halter and backing much better now. Still pretty spooky but calms quickly when I bring her attention back to me. I'm very impressed with how quickly she's learned things, like turns on hindquarters in both directions with very little prompting. Shoot, didn't take pics yesterday, will do soon. Just bought a round pen so I'll be bringing her home to train her here. If I hadn't just lost 1500 on Ebony and Ivory and another 800 in round pen, I'd certainly want to be bringing Jack home...

She's not head shy, and she likes the inside of her ears scratched, but anyways, got a copper snaffle on her and my roping saddle...she's coming along. Vet said she was getting too fat and close to founder so I brought her back home. She seems pretty happy and likes her work.

Thank you! I appreciate that! I sure think she's gorgeous! You should have seen her before pic...she looked pretty haggard when she first got here. I don't know how tall she is, she seems to have grown alot since she's been here...I think that was April. Well, I'm 5'4", my husband is 5'10"...to look at her I'd guess 14.2 ??maybe more...I gotta get one of those handy measuring sticks
I just like to keep posting pics so the board knows she's getting plenty of love and attention.

After getting all of Concha's groundwork done, I decided to hire a trainer to back her. Good choice too. I found a girl that trains race horses in New Zealand and happened to be here in town for the next three weeks. She's a spitfire girl and a Darn Good trainer, when Concha bucked she stuck like glue. I was impressed. After, she said Concha was extremely smart, very attached to me, and must be part mustang, cause she was the hardest horse she's ever trained. Once she got done bucking Concha just stood there and was completely calm for her to wave her legs and arms around in the saddle. then she trotted her around, got on, got off & on again. All this in an hour. I'm so happy I'm finally gonna have a horse to ride, and a beautiful one at that. Will send pics when I get them.

update: been training Concha to jump on longe line. She has Perfect form...front feet perfectly together and she clears things like a deer...effortlessly and graceful. Is anyone interested in a great hunter/jumper prospect? I recently measured her at 15.1 and she needs alot more time under saddle...let me know. I still haven't actually ridden her, too used to riding ponies I guess. So she is mostly just sitting around, does someone have a job for her?

not much new to report...had to take some time off training since her sinus infection came back and she had to go on antibiotics. Still haltering her around though and she's sooo much better...Here she is enjoying the lawn with the dogs in the backyard.

Will send pics when I get them.

well, you cant ride them till they are four. my stallion is 3. my filly is 4 months, and my broodmare is 18 and I sometimes hop on her bareback, but I'm giving her a rest as she is still nursing the filly. So, I've got the three, and Concha.

My first appaloosa mare was marked very similarly to Concha so naturally I think she is beautiful. Her color combination always looks clean and is a definite advantage. You have done such a nice job on her.

update: been training Concha to jump on longe line.

Icehorse,
In your last post, you asked if someone has a job for her.
Does that mean you trying to find a new home for Concha?
