KODIAK - Approx. 17-20 yrs old, 15.2hh, bigger gentle appy gelding. Easy to approach and handle, gentle guy, leads, backs, halters, picks up feet. We were told he is broke to ride. He likes treats. He does have a vision problem in one eye but it seems to let some light in. For Adoption Only.

His body is in excellent condition. He loves people and has sight. Even the feedlot owner said that he hoped we found a home for this broke to death gelding! You don't hear those words too often!

I think he is lovely--he would be a great kids horse--He and Iris could share a trailer to my house :0) what is going on with him?? I am interested--but would have to do some shuffeling of funds behind hubbys back....heeheee!

Yes. I know we all are. It just isn't fair that these new ones don't get a chance. When I saw this guy at the lot he seemed to sad- like he had given up all hope. He was just standing off in the corner all by himself. I just can't believe how these horses have been betrayed by us humans,

At this point in the game anybody who is interested in these horses should let their contact person know. We have little time and we all know it is a real possibility that any of these horses could be long gone tomorrow.

I am just sooo sick! This is crazy! I have regular dial up internet--and could not read the feedlot story--since puter is too slow--so this feedlot is basically a last stop before they definately are slaughtered? How do people sleep at night, treating these animals this way!

You know Shelbert, I'm so sorry, I really, really need more coffee, and maybe a valium...hummm. The movers are here and I swear I just want to pull the blankets up over my head and wake up all moved in up north. For some reason, I thought you were going to take him, but it's Iris. Hook me up to an IV of caffeine please...

Come on folks who wouldn't want this broke gelding for your kids.

I'm wondering if maybe he and Zesta just have a vitamin/mineral deficiency or something. It was mentioned they are both lethargic/depressed and have eye problems and that they came in together. I know that these sound like the symptoms of vitamin A and riboflavin deficiencies or if enough of these are available inability to process these due to other issues. If someone gets one of these two you might want to make sure you get them checked for deficiencies and such so this condition doesn't progress.

NOPE NONE! I am working on a price for Hauling, since he can't be deliverd to Bend. Then I can figure out if I can help with bail. Unless there is someone willing to adopt him outright!

Good luck with Kodiak, Tonisha. I know you can turn his "frown" upside down. Okay, that is really corny, but I think he just needs some love and time and he'll spring right back and follow you around forever. Thanks again for helping out Mesquite. Kodiak Joe is doing pretty well! Thanks for thinking of him! He was very very thin when I picked him up from the lot, as the other horses didn't let him eat and he had gone down hill. The FO did put him in the big stall area with Bugs, since they were both a rack of bones. He was in pretty bad shape and very weak. He has gained quite a bit of weight and is looking much better. He is blind in one eye, has very limited vision in the other eye, and can not hear very well. He seems to be able to hear high pitches. He does use his sense of smell pretty well. He does stumble and gets spooked so I have to be careful when I go out to see him. Once he knows I'm there he is usually OK. He leads well, and once he knows the halter is going on, he will put his nose in the halter. My farrier felt that his hooves had not been trimmed in probably over a year. Now they are under control and looking good. Once he gets to know the area he is in, he gets around petty good. I make sure to walk him around the fences so he knows the boundaries when I move him around the pastures.

I will get some updated pictures of Kodiak Joe and try to post them.

I saw Kodiak yesterday and he is looking pretty good. He and Gambler are eating down an area for Tonisha. They are getting along well, from what I can see.

Kodiak is just as Tonisha described. Gets scared occasionally, but is okay when he knows you are around. I think he just (as she said) has very limited sensory perception with eyes and ears. He has gained a bunch of weight since being home though. Tonisha is doing a great job with him and we compare old man stories once in a while.
