ZESTA - Approx 12 yrs old, 15hh, Paint mare ( looks like Appy/Paint cross). Can be haltered, led, backs, picks up feet. We were told she is broke to ride but we did not get on her, easy to handle but has bad left eye and does not like horses approaching from that side. She seems depressed at the lot. For Adoption Only.

She came in with Kodiak, shes also supposedly broke to ride folks! She does look alot like Skittles too.

My two girls, ages 9 and 14, rode a completely blind appy gelding today. If you didn't know he was blind, you couldnt' tell by how he moved, rode, etc. He was pretty amazing, and he was 100% blind in both eyes. There is hope for this one if given the chance.

My boy is completely blind in one eye and does great! He was in his first Green horse class this last weekend so even with blindnes they can go anywhere!

Look at that coloring! Someone out there must want something a bit more unique.

I'm wondering if maybe she and Kodiak have a vitamin/mineral deficiency or something. It was mentioned they are both lethargic/depressed and have eye problems and that they came in together. I know that these can be symptoms of vitamin A and riboflavin deficiencies or if enough of these are available inability to process these due to other issues. If someone gets one of these two you might want to make sure you get them checked for deficiencies and such so this condition doesn't progress.

Look at all those freckles!!
Don't let the left eye bother you! These horses are the best when riding because they listen to their rider and they bond with you so easily and become the best friend you'll ever have. I had a horse that was blind in the left eye for many years and it didn't stop OR slow him down one bit. C'mon folks, we only have a couple hours...

She is not totally blind, either, so maybe supplements and meds could help her. Even if they can't she is not totally blind! She can see out of one eye fine. She needs help today, soon, right now, quickly!!!!

thank you ,can't wait to get her home ,ya know zesta got to me so much that i sat down and wrote a letter to the editor of our newspaper her in montana about horse slaughter.so hope it gets some stuff stirred up and gets people to sign the bill to end this senseless killing of horses.

me too , the vet is coming today aroud three thrity to give her the once over as she isn't drinking any water ,and also to check her eye out.so will update you as soon as she gives us her findings.

hi all zesta seen the vet a little bit ago,she is good and healthy,but her only problem is her eyes as we know . the vet said she has moon blindness and sight will come and go until eventually she won't see anymore and has it in both eyes.so she is being treated with some ontment currently and has had her west nile and 5 way and will be getting wormed tomarrow,as for her eyes we are not to worried about that we will just care for them as they need it and do what we can to help her,she also got a new name today via my 8 year old,she is now daisy.will post new pics soon.oh and my vet thought that she is a little older maybe closer to 15.

did the vet say she had any signs of strangles or anything? i am just worried, since lady and berry were in with them...i glad she got a good check up!

no she had a normal temp and eating very well was a little moopy but has gotten better already and even gave my 8 yaer old a walk around the yard.

TRY KEEPING A FLY MASK ON HER IN THE SUNLIGHT. IT HELPS WITH THE BLINDNESS THEY ACT AS SUNGLASSES

My pony has recurrent uveitis (moonblindness). When he gets his vaccines it often triggers a flare up with his eyes, because it stimulates his immune system. So, her eyes may get worse for a few days to a few weeks. Not to worry it's the vaccines.

Sissy - please do some homework regarding moon blindness. There are certain things that can trigger "episodes". I believe worming is one of them. Here is a link I found that will provide you with some basic info.

Moonblindness can be painful - but there are things you can do to help keep her comfortable. If the ointment you are using is atropine - you need to be very careful putting her out in the sunshine.

thank you very much for the info i am really trying to keep up on this so she is comfy,i just love her to peices and would be sad if i thought she was in pain so i think we are going to get her on a program that my vet told me were they do an injection above the eye and she told me the comfort from the injection would last longer than the cream for her eye,she is doing great today drinking well but i snuck some salt in her grain and she started drinking.thanks agian .

thank you ,she is doing great ,except for her eye,she is very patient with us treating it,my vet said that if this cream doesn't help her they are going to give an injection above her eye that lasts longer and works better so we are just waiting to see how its gonna work.

hi all just a little update on zesta(daisy), the vet is coming on thursday next week and she is going to give an injection above her eye to help with her eye condition,she said that her sight seems to come and go in her left eye and this shot will help with inflamation and discomfort,other then that she is doing very well and enjoying being a lawn orniment for now,we are planning to see what she knows after her vet visit as i feel that if her eye is feeling better she will respond better .she was very slow to warm up to us but now she even comes running when we call her,she loves the company of my 8 year old and of course or big dog,and our mini,she is really a sweet girl .going to have the farrier out soon to do her feet so i will keep you all updated.

hi all the vet came on thursday and gave daisy an injection above her eye ,seems to have made her a little more comfy but thats about it ,my vet has recomended that if there isn't a good inprovement in 10-14 days that we should remove her eye as it is very painful to her so we are waiting and hoping for inprovement ,will update again as soon as we find out which way she is going to go.

hi all daisy is doing well,she was found to have worms last week but is being treated for that and is other wise very healthy ,she is going to see the vet agian soon to determine weather or not she is going to have her eye removed,so will let you all know as soon as we know.

zesta let my 8year old daughter ride her today,she is dead broke to ride for any level rider,she backed for my 8year old like a dream,the only thing that they had any trouble with was a trot because my little girls legs weren't strong enough to get her to move that fast,thank you all so much.

daisy is doing well these days her eye isn't bothering her as much after her injection ,she is doing well as i put her together with my arab mare wich is usally at the bottom of pecking order as daisy isn't mean at all and they have paired up nicely,my arab won't let daisy get to far before she calls her back,she is like her own seeing eye horse,they stay very close to each other and princess the arab won't let her wonder to far,we are going to have her eye rechecked soon to see how its doing.anyway thought i would give an update.

hi guys just a quick update on daisy ,she is doing great and is a very happy girl we brought her home from pasture so her little girl could spend more time with her and she is happy as a lark,they daisy and my daughter are two pea's in a pod and really love each other.pics soon.

we took daisy to the arena today and had a nice ride ,although she didn't much care for my friends gelding,it was funny she would get up close enough she could look him in the eye riding by and then take off at a trot to get past him like come on slow poke lol...then she thought she would test a little and try doing a crow hop or two to get out of riding anymore but once she knew it wasn't going to work she stopped and did very well,she gave my little girl about a half hour ride in the arena .she is really a good girl and trys to be tuff sometimes but just doesn't have the personality to be that way.
