Speckle (Available) Age: 20 years Height: 15hh Sex: Mare Breed: Appaloosa x Type Adoption Fee: $575 Contact Placement Specialist ~ Wendy: cberwendy@earthlink.net20 year old, 15h, speckled appy (?) mare. This mare was SUPER, SUPER gentle. She neck reins, gives to leg pressure is basically push button. A wonderful confidence builder that just about anyone can ride. She is not 100% sound behind but supplements should help her out. She can do anything and while Jeff is doing some risky movements it is not suggested that you do this at home! Note from Tash: Those markings are called Bird Catcher Spots and are quite rare... but are not Appaloosa specific markings. They can be on anything from Arab to Morgans to Paints. They are pretty darn nifty and quite frankly she is only the second horse that I am aware of with these markings in Washington.

Here's a helpful site with info about the speckling: www.equinecolor.com/unusual.html#bird"Birdcatcher Spots ~ Birdcatcher spots are small spots of white on the body of the horse, generally the size of an eraser head to the size of a quarter and can be larger. The genetic control of Birdcatcher Spots is unknown but they probably have something to do with Sabino."

If this horse is so unique, I don't understand why more people on this board are not interested.....How do we reach out to all the members Here......to post an alert to all? Somebody has to want this horse..... We have such a special horse right now available, a rare opportunity to own, and no one will save her???I don't understand that. I don't understand why only a handful of people post comments when there are so many members here. C'mon, you wouldn't be a member here if you did not love horses and want to save them from slaughter.........now is the time to come to the aid of these horses. If you are like me and live in an apartment and can only donate or cheerlead, then that is understandable, but there are many people here that have horses and know alot about horses. Can any of you consider adding one more horse to your pasture? We cannot go on hoping they will get adopters, we have to try as hard as we can to ask our friends and spread the word. How can we not try as hard as we possibly can.

alp, most of us that post a lot are out off space or time.
I'm acting as a back up adopter for 1 of the horses 2 rounds back, if no one adopts him at the end of QT then he will come to me.
If I were NOT waiting in the wings for this 1 horse, my offer would go to a horse in this round.
By the way I live in the city & in an apartment & I've been able to make "life with horses" work.

Aleta,
You are an amazing cheerleader and I appreciate all you do. We really do need to get the word out and tell friends, acquaintances, neighbors or anyone else that will listen. Would you mind posting your thoughts in the general section where more people might read it?
Thank you for having such a big heart!

to Maverick-Zora Which horse is that? I admire you for making life work with horses being a part of it. I just want to see more people come forward and help, that is all.....it shouldn't have to be the same members that are already stretched to the limit.
It is just heartbraking to loose any of these horses.

I totally agree. Speckles is amazing and unique. I thought for sure she would have been outright adopted by now. I would love to offer her a home, but one mare is more than enough for me!

I'm right there with you alp!
Like you I would LOVE to see more & more of our members adopt, & more & more new members come onboard & get really involved.
The horse that I'm back up on is Bouncer.
I'm sorry if my post seemed confrontational I didn't mean it that way. It just seems that many of us go thought life thinking we can't do a thing until the conditions in our lives are just perfect.
Life is never perfect so just do what you LOVE!
For the record I am NOT rich! But I CAN do what I love on a modest income, so if I can do it so can you.

Wow, I really love Bouncer. He was my favorite of that group and I posted ads for him. If you want I can post one on horsetopia for him. If I lived in WA, he would be the horse for me. I cried tears of relief when I heard he was Safe. Thank you for being his backup.

Hi alp, What you don't know is that many of the quiet members on this board, have helped financially, cheered on other rescuers, and rescued 1 if not several horses. Allot of us just don't have more space and just can't take another. I personally have 8, 7 are resuces, and 6 came to me thru cber. I have done what I can, and while it saddens me to see any horse lost, I have to remind myself that I am doing my part. So, please don't mistake quiet for lack of caring or conviction. It may seem like its a small group doing all the work, but thats only the way it looks from the outside. Most of us on the bb have been part of that small group, and now we are on the outside watching, caring for the rescues we've taken, and waiting to help in other ways, beyond bringing home another horse. keep up your cheerleading, tell your friends, neighbors, and consider adopting a horse in need. Anything is possible. -M Modified, I actually have 9 horses , can't keep track anymore

Maverick_Zora,
I love Bouncer, but I live alone, work 3 jobs, and money is sorely lacking in my life right now. Any extra I have I give to rescues. My four cats are all I can feed right now. They get the good stuff, I get the toast!
Barbaro got me into these rescues and it must be for a reason, so maybe there is a horse in my future, but it cannot be today.
I'll place the ad for Bouncer.

She has one other home offer before me, so we'll see. If she gets a home with that lady that's great. If not, she can come with me. Otherwise, I'll try for Cindy.
