MILKSHAKE Age: 20+ Height: 15'1 Sex: Gelding Breed: Paint x - Adoption Fee: 360.00 Contact Placement Specialist ~ Shawna: tufnspendy@aol.comMilkshake was a ranch horse for most of his life, he was kicked out on pasture last winter to fend for himself, when they gathered this spring, he didn't come in, so they figured him for dead. He showed up late this summer really really thin. They ran him thru a cattle sale & the kill buyer bought him. He has been at the feedlot for a couple of months gaining weight & strength. He is a very nice old horse. Perked right up when we rode him, he is very broke & a steady eddy. He has good teeth, they are a little long but all in tact. oh my geez, would you look at that boy!? he's just a beauty with a sweet face. With lots of groceries he would be a great kids horse

poor guy, owners figured he was dead, then found him and let him be sold to the KB, nice people. he's neat to look out, wow. I bet he was something stunning in his teen years. when he was fat and sassy.

Poor horse, I can't belive what he looked like a few months ago ... he's still very thin in his current pictures.. He needs a retirement home and someone to love him.. and treat him like a King ... He got to have a strong will to live... to have gone through all of that ... and more..

I love this horse -- not only for his amazing and unique looks, but for his spirit -- he's gone through so much, and yet, here he is. Hard to pick any out from the others, as they all deserve better than a lot and slaughter, but it would be such a sad ending, after all he's already made it through.
saying prayers for you, old guy, Em

Any horse that was left out on the range to fend for himself. . .then, lost out there for another season. . .deserves nothing better than the perfect retirement. If he had enough smarts and stamina to survive on his own the elements, the coyotes, the auction ring, etc., then he has more than enough intelligence and energy to live long into retirement. He's still got all his teeth, for pete's sake! He enjoys carrying a rider! Dang! Wish I could have a horse again.

Good grief - why do I even look on the CBER website anymore !?
I think I can take this poor old guy if nobody else steps up - I'm inquiring about him right now since I have NO CLUE how this feedlot-horse thing works (QT required or not ? Any additional costs ? Limited time-frame ? etc. etc.)
Keep your fingers crossed for him ! Gabi

This is the guy I would bring home. He has suffered and is also very wise. Not that the two go together. Some of us just get good at suffering..... Seriously, I wish I could have this horse.....but I must board until my ship comes in - which has been at sea for quite a while now.

Hooray, Gabi!
Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, legs and arms! : )
This old guy deserves a soft landing. Of course, the stress and lack of food is hard on all horses, but this poor, beautiful horse is older, and so thin. I shiver myself at the thought of him going through a WA winter being that painfully thin.
He just needs a place where, finally, the worst is over, and he matters to someone!

And Gabi,
Shawna is *amazing* with the horses she has in QT. My Cloud looks so much better just in the 2 weeks he's been with Shawna. He's gaining weight steadily, and he looks so much more animated and alive. He's off to a great start.
Then, he'll come home to AZ and bathe in the sun with Mr. Bean. : ) (photos coming soon, it's been pretty busy here during the daylight hours. I want to wash Mr. Bean first, brush him out and then peel the mustang from his side, lol, and he'll be ready. I'll do it this weekend for you.)
still crossing everything, nice to see you here!
Em

My daughter and family are very interested in Milkshake, she got her application in and was approved last night. We have heard he has been spoken for already so we are next in line. I am an equine acupressure practitioner and long time horse owner; I am ready to adopt Milkshake sight unseen, but my daughter and son - in - law want to at least see him in person before they sign the dotted line. If for some reason, the pending adoption does not go through we are 1 1/2 hours north of Benton City so we can see him on short notice. I have contacted Shawna, she is aware of our interest. My sense is Milkshake will be placed in a great home, ours or someone else who cares. Yahoo!!

I received an email from a local gal involved in horse rescue last weekend. When she learned that Pay Day had come thru CBER, she referred to Milkshake as having been adopted by a friend of hers, so maybe this is correct?? This is what she said:
>>>>>I actually just recently sent a friend of mine who just moved to Washington to this same Rescue. She also just adopted a Slaughter Bound Horse this week. His name is Milk Shake<<<<<
>>>>>>Oh my gosh, I can't believe you know Milk Shake, that's so cool. One of my best friends, Lt. from SoSF Police Dept. retired last week. Him and his wife purchased a 20 acre ranch in Washington and want to take on some rescue's. Milk Shake will be her first. She has 4 other horses of her own.<<<<<<<

My grandaughter Isabella is 5 and she is just in her glory having a horse of her own! And the name Milkshake is perfect!! He has turned into a great old guy...and he gets along with the herd too! Canters and trots around the pasture like a young one!! Not bad for 30 plus!! Debra
