For those of you who remember my bucker, Handsome: Yesterday, he wore a halter and learned a little bit about being led. Today, he had vet attention, was innoculated, had his feet trimmed, teeth floated and his sheath cleaned. (He doesn't remember this part, as he was out cold.) We were able to get this attention for him because trainer Angi K., who is Tockita's friend, and sort of a horse savior, spent most of this week here, working with him. She had had one prior session with him when the mares and babies were picked up in northern CA. Needless to say, we think she walks on water and are very, very grateful that she's taken him on. Here's a link to photos of the his first training session with Angi. s21.photobucket.com/albums/b268/hesalooker/Handsome%20at%20school/I have a long video of yesterday's training, but unless I have an epiphany about how to post videos, it will take me awhile to get it up.

LOL Eve, she would be sooo embarassed if she read all the stuff we say about her! But she does have a way of inspiring it doesn't she? I was calling her voice mail all week begging for updates ;D and YES dj Handsome is very properly named.
Angi told me tonight he did GREAT! Not so sure about the vet when he arrived but took his shots like a champ (from her anyway) I'll bet George or you would be able to do pretty much anything she has managed to reduce his fear of. He very obviously loves George!! You can tell he's had a lot of love in the last year.
She said she hated leaving you guys, felt very much at home and is coming back in a few weeks. She was off to the Drs when I spoke to her earlier, but she still sounded better to me then she did last weekend. Must be the tea.
Oh and for videos you can join Youtube and post them there in 10 minute segments, then post the link here. I for one never get enough of watching her work her magic!

I think this should be out on the main board, Handsome deserves his own thread!

Thanks for the kind words. I will move the thread if I can, and would have put it there except I didn't know if there are that many people not staff who know of him. He was a little off last night--didn't hoover up his porridge that contained his bute, but everything was gone this morning. He got $167 worth of extra sedatives and tranqs , so he's probably still under the influence. We can't seem to get our stuff to take on Utube, but photobucket has a video option, so I'll try that. Oh, haha, Tock, the Corgis treated her like she was their personal T-bone steak. Anwyl awakened her by staring at her from 10 inches away, and coming back every 5 minutes or so to check to see if she was "ready". Rhys jumped into bed with her and rooted around in her hair and bit her toes.

Ebo - what's his history? Off the feedlot? What breed is he? He was a bucker? It's amazing - I have a horse that looks alot like him. We rescued him as a 5 yr old stallion, locked in a 15x15 pen outside with plywood over the corner for shelter. Had NEVER been haltered or handled - but was used for breeding. I got him gentled and gelded, but starting him under saddle has been interesting. He doesn't want to stop bucking... =)

I loved Rhys & Anwyl. I was very flattered that Rhys wanted to go with us, and told Angi she could let him sneak a ride down with her if he wanted.

dscmmi--We don't know for sure what he is. We were told (maybe true, maybe not) that he is tb/qh and draft. To me, he looks like a Candian, or maybe a Perch cross. He was dumped at the Yakima lot on Christmas Eve of 2005. I took him because nobody else would and the truck was en route. He was, of course, emotiionally damaged. He also had an ugly wire cut that nearly took off his heel--untreated and unnoticed by people at the lot because of feathers and because they probably couldn't get that close.
He doesn't ever have to "DO" anything, really. I just want to be able to take good care of him--trims, vet and so forth. If it works out, we might see if he'd like to drive. (I'm not the 8 second type.)

Great to hear updates on this boy- I remember him! I've often wondered about the batch of bucking stock that was rescued by CBER members and what became of them. They were considered such high risk adoptions- I really respect all those who took them on.
He is such a BEAUTY!! It's wonderful to hear that he is starting to trust people. Was he a gelding on the lot or did you geld him? I remember some of the bucking stock mares were pregnant. Please keep the updates coming ebo.

Ebo, Thanks for the "Handsome update". I always love hearing about him. I am so glad that you were able to have Angie come work with him. Sounds like she is the perfect trainer for him. Did Handsome just allow you to give him the injection without much fuss?
Patrolhorse, Most of the buckingstock horses adopted last year are doing well and we get occational updates. I had Echo. She had a beautiful chestnut colt. Echo now lives with Sheri in the Spokane area and is doing great. I still have her colt - Phoenix. Teddie, aka Pilgrim, lives with Lauri in Oregon and had a beautiful Black Filly - Dancer. Pictures of both babies are on the horses thread. Of course Kermit and her colt, Prince Charity, are with Cowgirl Spirit. Kermit and Prince are doing very well. Prince is HUGH now. Crayola and Clea went to Canada and I have not heard any updates for months. Bam and Bandana were adopted and still with their original adoptors. Bam is very friendly and handlable and Bandana is friendly but still unhandled. Merlow had a colt, I think, and lives somewhere in Oregon. I have never heard any updates. Lilly had a filly and they both live in Central Washington running on a large ranch. She is still unhandled. I can't remember the cute grey filly's name but she had received some training and my understanding is that she is doing great. She was up for sale but I have not heard anything for months. Hopefully I did not miss anyone. Has anyone ever heard about Clea or Crayola?
