Dedrea - 2 yr . 14h Tennessee Walker type mare. This mare is not halter broke but is approachable and does appear friendly. Dedrea let us pet her and was generally good natured. She will need additional training in the halter. She has a good kind eye and is sound at time of assessment.

I have a good friend that is interested in adopting this mare, but she cant swing the money right now. She will pay back any GA money offered.

She will give her an excellent home. She has two other gaited horses and is very familiar with Walkers.

Her application is going in tonight. But I can vouch for an excellent home.

Hi Lady Angels:

I just discovered this thread. I have Dedrea/Annie.

I want to thank Cybercat, EileenM and SCR for helping me save Annie. You would all love her. I would add a picture but I haven't figured that part out yet.

She's getting better. Of course she has the lot sickness times 2. Get this, the first one burst on 11/3 and another one appeared on Monday, same vacinity but hasn't burst yet. Ugh!

I talked with the vet and she said just keep soaking and cleaning and she'll get better. Now we know why the vets don't want to give the antibiotics before, during or after.

She is definetly halter broke, let's me pick up her feet and has never been aggressive, even when she didn't want me to mess with her illness. She nickers at me when I come up to her pasture.

Whatever the minor sores were she had on her front pasterns have pretty much disappeared without any fuss on my part. I had to trim her mane. I'm guessing she had been in with other young horses and they had chewed wholes in her mane. Very minor detail.

I want to thank all of you for helping to save another soul.

1/25/07 Dedrea/Annie update. I finally found you guys again. I missed hearing how everyone was doing.

I took Annie's blanket off to take her picture so she looks blotchy or miscolored. As you can see the wind was blowing but she was being a good girl about it.

She is your typical 2 year old, expressing a bit of attitude these days. As soon as she sees me heading her way to feed, she comes running to her stall and stands there and paws until I feed her her grain. If I don't get the grain to her fast enough I get the snake neck thing also. That's when she moves her head and neck in a spiral motion to express her frustration.

The vet comes on 1/29 for her final check up. I'm looking forward to introducing her to the rest of the crew. After that, it's round pen time and a saddle. She gaits in the pasture so I'm sure she will gait under saddle.

She will be for sale as soon as I get her broke if anyone is interested.

Annie is now in training. My good friend Jedismom talked me into attending the Steve Rother Clinic on Feb 24 & 25. Great idea. We learned lots of ground manner etiquette and even learned about hobbles. She never freaked out at anything.

I got on her back for the first time on 3/4. We had done a lot of spook proofing in the round pen. By the time I put my foot in the stirrup she was very happy to just stand there. Once in the saddle we did some give to the pressure exercises with just the halter and lead rope. She did everything I asked her to do without any fuss. What a good girl

Annie has a new forever home. Here is a picture of her at my place before I delivered her to her new owner.

When I delivered Annie to her new home I felt she had a great new home and only felt a little sad. The following day I went for a ride about an hour away from home. When I put my gelding in the horse trailer he had 4 shoes on. When I pulled him out of the trailer at the trail head he only had 3.5 shoes on. This is becoming a real problem with him in the last two years. I have him on hoof supplements and it isn't making a difference.

I had a major case of seller's remorse after that. I kicked myself all the way back home that day. I had sold the wrong horse. I even contacted the new owner and offered to buy her back. The new owner wasn't interested in letting her go. She knows she has a great horse.

Another success story for our rescue group. Thanks for everyone who helped

Great news! I remember how taken everyone was by her when she was on the lot. Thank you for giving her that great chance at life she deserves. She is so gorgeous, and that picture is so great. It marks her new beginning! ;D

And for your shoe problem, have you tried neatsfoot oil? We have an Appy that has bad feet, really brittle and chippy in this hot weather. Looses shoes at the drop of a hat if we aren't careful. So, our farrier recommended painting the oil on the sole of his foot and the coronary band. It retains the moisture and helps draw more in. We do it once a week to every two weeks and it works wonderfully. Just a thought !
