Rescued by SAFE (Save a Forgotten Equine).

HOT LIPS - 20+ years, 15 hands, palomino mare. Her knees don’t look that great, somewhat sway back, plow reins, walks out well. Left knee doesn’t have full range of motion, however, our rider says that she moves very smoothly for as old as she is. Really loves to be petted and brushed. An affectionate old girl. Hot Lips has had her tail chopped off just below the bone for unknown reasons. She has a Negative Coggins, has been vaccinated and had her teeth floated. In need of groceries and love.

I am so Happy with Ms Hot Lips (aka Ginger) she made herself at home last night, a little shaken, but today she snickered when I came to the paddock, after her breakfast she was released to her new pasture, and the sun was out, she rolled, then she shocked me, she cantered around the fence line. She forgot those old stiff legs. My partner, is claims is not a "horse person", was worried about her first night at home, he went up at 5am to check on her.

I met miss Ginger today (as well as Tate and Tatesmom) What an absolute dolly!!

Tina has really given these ladies LURVE and Ginger is so sweet and snuggley! She's curious and so freindly once she realizes that a starnger can give Love too! I even got her to do "Quarter horse lips!" (flappa flappa!)

Her tail is much longer and fuller and she's very wooley right now (so am I LOL!) but she's a real sweet lady!

Hot Lips(ginger) had her annual vet visit/shots today, he was very pleased with her progress, her teeth are in great shape, still has all of them and no signs of any problems, now that she is well, we addressed the lameness on the left rear leg, turns out to be an old stifle injury, nothing can be done to correct it, but, he felt that the muscle she has built up along with supplements have helped alot, all and all shes doing great. He also was very pleased with groups like this that give these horses hope, love and happy endings.

Any new pics of her? How's her tail growing?

Thanks cvl, I'll take some new pics this week, her tail has grown 12 inches since she's been home, and boy was she swatting it around today while the vet was here. However, she is such a good girl, I was so proud of her while she underwent everything. From the look of both knees(multiple scar tissue) he totally agreed she looked like an ex barrel horse. She was always my favorite too.

Wasn't Ginger really sick not long after you got her? I seem to remember that she was going downhill, but I don't recall what her ailment was....

Hottie(ginger) also had a bath yesterday, I was so proud of her, she stood without any ties and loved every minute of it. Her weight gain is slow, but, she is getting there. I took this today when I got home from seeing Katie.

In two weeks Hot Lips(ginger) will be here with me for one year. Here is a current picture of her tail, its really grown. She's such a nice mare.

Sadly, my friend Tina(Tate) recently lost Ginger to her advanced arthritis, after exhausting all options, Ginger was laid to rest peacefully on 3/19/08, she was a much loved mare who is missed.

I am very sorry for Ginger's passing - she spent the final years of her life with someone who adored her.

My heart is heavy to hear this news. I was privileged to meet this beautiful mare and she did have a "greatness" about her. I also know that she had the most wonderful care and love for the last years of her life with Tina.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Tina and everyone who loved this girl.

Please give Tate my condolences...Ginger suffered a huge indignity before finding herself on the feedlot. Her tail was whacked off...it made a huge impression on me at the time...

I will tell her.
It was a hard thing to do. I was with her until the very end held her and carressed her until she passed. It was the most peacefull I don't know how to say it calm setting. I spent about 2 hours pouring the love on her. She did not suffer one single bit.
