We received these two updates today from Karen, Sparkles new mom. She and her sister together have adopted a total of 4 horses from CBER. I asked for her permission to post her letters here, and she gladly approved. I've also invited her to join the board and hopefully keep us updated with more of Sparkles accomplishments, as well as pictures!
Thank you Karen and Becky for your support!

Subject: News from "Sparkle"!
Hello Sam!
I am realizing that almost 2 months have past and I haven’t given you any update on Sparkle! Time has flown, but has been so full of wonderful detail. Sparkle, who I also call “Pie”, continues on under your words, to be so sweet! I did a tattoo search through the Jockey Club and found her “real” name to be Pearls in Excess. (Hence “P.I.E”!) (Or “sweetypie” as she so aptly earns!) She just turned 4 on Feb 8th. Her Great Grandfather is Seattle Slew on her Dams side, Her grandsire on her pops side is “In Excess”, Going back on all sides such names pop up like Damascus, Native Dancer and Count Fleet! So you have big lineage and you end up a little “short”-
But she sure does “Sparkle” ! The gals at the barns are amazed at how her coat glistens and are always commenting on how she sparles!. We have been working on the training the race track doesn’t offer, like standing still, walking and SLOWLY trotting. My first couple round pen attempts were like the bell went off at the gates! But she is a VERY quick and willing learner! Praise means everything and as long as she puts an action to a “Good Girrl!” she eagerly goes that direction!. She loves to be brushed for my endless pampering. She is Very friendly and social and not aggressive at all to other horses. She keeps her ears up and attentive and considers things quite level headedly for a 4 year old! The farrier who trimmed her feet was quite thrilled to have such a cooperative horse! She and I work a lot on ground manners, respect for space and to not be pushy or pully when lead, lunged or handled. She is doing so great! We just received in a new saddle (for a T bred, she is actually a wide tree) I have had a saddle on her several times- we are working on the fact a saddle doesn’t mean to get hyped up- there is no race, only leading and the good ol’ Walk and trot SLOW and its good to relax!. Despite never having been raced, we all at the barn have seen how she can move when she is in her turn out!! The owner of the barn has recently and sincerely encouraged me to join up with the trainer from Germany who trains there and work her toward Dressage. She said she has the best movement of any horse in the barn (even the imported $$ Dutch Warmblood!) and carries herself beautifully! The proud Mom that I am, I don’t know how to tell my dreams to stop coming true!! She is such a fun horse to work with, she is a very fast and willing learner and to watch her movement as she trots around me, with an ear in , smacking her lips and chewing, thinking and listening- I can’t tell you how happy I am!!!!
THANK YOU, SAM, for bringing this horse to my life!! She has brought such new and magical life to my life!!!
I’ll keep you posted as we progress! It’s so great to be able to give this little mare the chance she more than deserves!!
My best to you!

Hi Stacie!
Yes, please feel free to post my message to Sam! I worked with her specifically when I adopted Sparkle, but my sister has worked with several from the CBER group with the three horses she has adopted.
Thank you for the link, I would love to participate and share support and encouragement to all who aspire to this incredible chance of giving a horse a real chance! I don’t know of any more heart fulfilling ways to bring horses into your life. My sister Becky and I are two very changed people because of this!!
The barn that I stable at, the owner’s schooling horses and her own dressage horse are all “rescue” horses and like she says, they tend to be the ”most special horses” and their personalities tend to be kind and they truly “give back” more than other horses…
CBER is mentioned to all who walk up to “Sparkle”- who attracts and encourages them with her perky ears, heart melting blaze and snip-, and greeting eyes!
Thank you and all who are part of CBER-
Sparkle and I ‘toot your horn’ daily!!
