Freesia & Twinkie- Appaloosa Mare and foal
Post by cherie on Aug 27, 2006, 8:33pm
This appaloosa mare has not been handled, but doesn't "freak out" when people come near; she just moves away. Twinkie, a colt, is only weeks old, but he's absolutely as cute as a button. He's come up for scratches and pets and has let people pet him as he basks in the sun. Lancelot on the feedlot helps to keep watch over him for his mother. We have not seen her display any aggression towards people that have touched Twinkie. Both mother and foal appear to move sound. Twinkie is nursing and we want to see these two go together. Twinkie does appear to be getting sick at the lot, so let's help this small family!!! For experienced horse person only.

I think baby's too young to ship (thank God) but mares have had their foals pulled before while they ship, he's too young to be w/out mom, and she shouldn't be torn from her baby like that. I'll see if I can add them to the Pull Fund thread....

Ok... I'm the one who has been helped by my friend Tiffany (I think she's "Snickers" on the other board..?) to try and adopt these two. I'm waiting to hear back from a hauler to see how much it is, and so depending on that, would be to how much I can pay of the adoption fee. I don't like asking this, and feel a litte silly since I don't know any of you, but could anyone perhaps pitch in the remaining amount whenever we find out what it is? I could pay it back about next month or so. If anyone could, I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi memory 300 and welcome!
None of us knew each other when we started, and that didn't stop us from throwing money to/at each other. We'll do what we can to help.
Where are you? (ie, where do the horses need to be moved to?)
jenm et al = see, this is what I was thinking of for our "own" pull fund. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say "gotcha covered"?

I think our check will clear tomorrow (gosh I hope so!) and then I can use approx. $500 from that. Everyone keeps telling me the horse should be about $800, therefore I need just a little bit of help with the rest of the adoption fee. I can pay whoever helps back next month or so. Let me know please. I'd hate to see this lovely mare go. I adore her face.

It's tough waiting around to here, Caryn said all I need to do too get these two is make sure they are no where near barbed wire (which I agree with, of course). The old owners of this place loved barbed wire, because it's everywhere. We plan on putting up new fence where they are going, and then fixing the rest while they are in the pen for 30 days.

These guys made it home, and are very happy. Poor Mommy has a lot of battle scars, especially on her rump. She barely moves away when we go out to see them, within about a foot then she moves. I think she will be vey easy to befriend. She dosen't mind us touching baby, and seems interested in whats going on whenever we go out with them. There does not appear to be a mean bone in that mares body! And what Sweetie that colt is!
