We have been contacted that there is a dozen or more babies in holding pens needing homes.. They are 2 years of age and younger..If we take them all the price the will be reduced.. A group in California has agreed to donat cost for 4-5..We need people to step up to take these little one or help the adopters with the needed cost to care for them..As none of us have prepared for a wild foal in winter... We all are straped this winter and taking a extra mouth to feed will be a hard ship to everyone of us.. Also if we can work on a all point transport (north, south, east and west) to bring a number of these foals for drop off at new homes.. Trying to keep cost down and still help the foals as soon as possible...Winter is bad in all areas and the foals are in open pens...If we take to much time some will not make it and the ones left will go to the feedlot... Working getting pic's and price is being finalized.. PLEASE HELP...........Darla / Chatty Contact either one of us

We plan to post pic's as soon as we can...App. is needed to go to pens, we're working on that..Vol. from Yakima valley to help would be great as Darla and I are working on this from a far..
Darla at darla@strawberrymountainmustanys.com Chatty at r2chpbob@aol.com
Darla been working hard to get these babies and fundraising also... I need names, locals, or transport and if you would like to offer a pick up local..
Yes pick up pens would be great in the valley, as we can tag and load to thier new homes.. Single or multi loads..Remember these are wild foals, so must be transprted as so...

Thanks Chatty -
We don't have all specifics yet - and until I get pictures it's hard to know what we're looking at.
These are wild weanlings to two year olds off the Yakama Reservation. I've been offered a substantial discount, in part I'm sure, because they need to get them moved and they need hay money.
Above all else, we need homes. The funds will be easy to generate - but we need people with pipe panels and shelters.
I'm in Southern Oregon. I can offer layover here or temporary holding - and would be willing to drive several hours north or south down I-5 to help relay.
I'm not on the board much - so email me directly if you think you can help. If you can only take one, I can contact the reservation and ask if they would extend the special price - and you can adopt directly from them.
Details are slow coming in... but please keep this bumped... we don't want these babies to end up on the feedlot.

God I need to post picks of my two! For those of you who remember Zesty, it turned out she was off the Yakima Rez. I got the info on her after I adopted her. She looks very much like Miata, just no white on her legs & a wee bit fatter now! Zesty came to me pregnant, both mom & babe have the same marking. I'll try to figure out how to post picks tonight! She does the same silly smile thing too

Dyna is a yearling and same thing. She started off a little hellion, just ask Aunty Dean she went to PEC first, then spent some time with Auntie Kerrie. Once she arrived she tamed so fast! Now shes a love bug you would never have known ran wild.

Strawberry Mountain has just committed to taking in some local seizures by animal control. Unfortunately that means we'll have no room - and really no way to help these babies - other than by networking to find them homes. I had been hoping since last summer that we'd be able to take some of these guys in, and I'm very discouraged now that we can't.
Chatty has been a wonderful driving force behind this rescue. I admire you for that. Thanks for keeping the Yakama horses at the fore-front.

I took a long yearling that was off the rez - unlike the BLM horses most of these know what a fence is. More like a 'range bred' colt- that a truly 'wild' one - it wasn't 'tame' but didn't present any bigger problem than range bred colts we've bought at a sale.

:-[Every morning I cry. How lucky my horses are to have been save from these hard times.. >:(Horses are being dumped on the Rez to fend for them self, uncaring owners allowing their horses to starve instead of giving to someone who cares.. :(Now little babies I can't help..We all are trying to feed the ones we have..And it's getting harder everyday.. Our hay was sold out from under us (he got twice the amount for it), I don't blame him, but it really put us in a bind.. I guess we had it good, he would deliver 6 tons a month if we needed it or not...Could take in extras to rehome/rehab.. Not this year ... Got to go..can't stop crying...........god bless you all chatty

You have a Shoshone mustang? I do too, two little mares from the Dann sisters' herd. They're great little horses. Lifesavers ended up with the weak horses that got left behind to starve by the rancher that took them. www.wildhorserescue.org/fishcrk.htmAngi said it was the most heartbreaking and heartwarming thing she ever saw.. mares allowing multiple foals nurse along with their own foals.. but there was not enough food for any of them. The stronger horses would push into the feeders when there was hay but the weaker ones were dying because there hadn't been enough for them to get a turn at the hay. The Dann horses they have are BEAUTIFUL!!

My two girls are from that Fishcreek tragedy. My filly, Nuala, was born at Fishcreek shortly before the rescues intervened. Paris, my mare, lost her foal there and arrived at the LRTC facility w/milk but no baby. She helped nurse another mare's colt.
The whole thing played out again with the horses that did come to California. Slick Gardner allowed them to starve on his ranch near Santa Barbara.
They are now being cared for by WIN (Wild Horses in Need), which was formed in response to the needs of these horses. LRTC has some of them up here in Knightsen. They're beautiful horses - good temperaments and very level-headed, as a rule.

Oh, so cool, Bridgetah! I was told my mustang is Shoshone -- the story told to me was that he was foaled on a feedlot in Nevada, and his dam was a rounded up Shoshone mustang from the Dann sisters' herd, who sadly shipped to slaughter. I rescued our mustang from an equine rescue that had starved, abused and neglected him. I'll post more photos once our high speed is installed, but he arrived here a wild mess. Actually, since this is a rescue board, maybe some here know more -- the story is that my mustang and a group of other feedlot babies were saved from the feedlot and "passed out" to different rescues who took them in. I remember Mustang Spirit was involved. Also, my mustang has a hand-drawn "N" brand on his neck, the left side. I don't know much more than that, and it's possible the woman who ran the abusive rescue (who has since been convicted on multiple animal cruelty counts) may not have been honest. I have contacted people but haven't been able to find out what the brand is. Em MTA -- I think I'm inadvertantly hijacking this very serious thread, so I'm going to start a new thread and copy this post over there. LOVE the photos. She looks a lot like my Shoshone mustang! OMG! So the rescue story I was told the first time must be correct! Can you please tell me the story, because I don't hav the details for my mustang Shooting Star. You have the hand drawn "N" brand? Do you know who branded them, and what the "N" is for? Is it for Nevada? So cool! We have related horses most likely! wow nellie... my mare sunshine is from that same mess!!!! she also has the n brand on her neck!! i got her from a rescue here locally ,, and was told she came from the slick garner ranch and was starved also.. maybe that is why she came to me preggers!! she gave me sunny my in your face pocket pony!!!

Chatty, this is such a heartbreaking situation! I will keep you and the Yakima horses in my prayers, and I hope they all are saved!
I would take one in a heartbeat but there's no way I could afford another ... I wish I could. If wishes were horses, one or two more would be here for sure.
Thank you for being there for these horses. They are so lucky to have you championing them. And please keep us posted!

the "n" brand stand for navajo brand or so i have been told..i got sunshine from mustang spirt who told me that she was rescue off the slick gardner range. she had her about 8 months before i got her and i got her in april or may of 2005. was told she was 3 years old well that is not her age as between the vet and her teeth she is about 10 or 11.. anyway she was starved and mistreated. guess that why she was so untrusting of me for the longest time!! now after being at the trainers i am riding her now. and i can catch her with out any problems. (finally) anyway i love to hear your story,,

I thought the same, but the Navajo Nation told me their brand is bar N. Thank you for the story! If your horse was 3 at that time, that would be in the same range as Peanut. I'm waiting to hear back from Mustang Spirit to see if I can get any additional info. I think it's interesting that Peanut's brand is hand drawn -- I was told many hand drawn brands are done in Mexico. But I think the original story told to me was correct, and I have photos to see if Mustang Spirit or an affiliate might remember Peanut, and the rescue he was sent to before I rescued him from them. His official name is Shooting Star, because the marking on his forehead looks like a shooting star. I think it may stand out enough to be remembered.
