"Hi, what does the book say about "The Minister"? Thank you , Rocky "
Rocky asked what is said about the archetype of Minister was all about and I thought I would post in the general thread in case others were interested.
Klaus Hempfling has a book called What Horses Reveal. In it he explains the 26 main character groups that he has observed horses fall into. It gives physical characteristics, mental outlooks and how to train each type. Also what their physical weaknesses and strengths tend to be. Although he can come across as a rather egocentric character; I find having the book very interesting as I study particular horses. Also most horses have a combination of characters so that's interesting too. I would be interested in hearing from folks with lots of experience with many horses what they think of the groups he has outlined. Its a very beautiful hard cover book; cost about $30. But with an incredible amount of training info.
The Minister is a very special type of horse and Sarge seems to fit it very well, although I do not know the horse. He has the physical characteristics esp the sloping nose that starts above the nostrils. Here is a small part of the physical description:
"The head is long and narrow but never weak. The contours of the head are hard and firm as is the whole body. the horse is sinewy and solid, and in no way tends to corpulence. The nostrils are fine and not terribly large. The mouth is very expressive , but also comparatively small. The upper lip is powerful and sensitive, and the noble lower lip is held correctly. The characteristic downward slope of the muzzle actually begins about a hands breadth above the nostrils. Above this point, the profile runs straight all the way to the forehead which is small but powerful. The eyes, set relatively far up the face, are encircled by very expressive , prominent bony sockets, The eye, too, is not particlular large, but always very alert and receptive."
He begins by saying: "Of all the horses the Minister is probably the most mentally agile, the cleverest. He is very superior in his nature. He is a wise horse, and one that you would gladly 'turn to for advice'"......With the Minister a great equine character is always in our midst."

Wow! I like that afinenettle. That seems to describe him very well. I agree especially that his mouth is very expressive. I always thought he was "talking" to me and had smiles and frowns. He is absolutely mentally agile and he was definitely the one the other horses in the pasture came to for advice.

The gypsy women told me that Sarge and I should get invovled with helping "transitional" children. She is the one that told me he loves children..he is gentle around them.

Dear Sarge,
I am feeling very emotional and drained today...so very sad.
But when I look at your picture, I see the reason that we continue to struggle against equine slaughter... I see stength, wisdom and understanding. I see dignity. I see you, Sarge.
Rocky and Lisa have been blessed and honored by your presence...and we all have been enriched by your specialness.
Thank you, Sarge.
Leanne
