From NorCal Equine Rescue: "Dear Friends, We are working to rescue 16 quarter/pony crosses and 1 BLM mustang. Their owner’s property is in the final stages of foreclosure. This "backyard breeder" was going to send them to the feedlot, but we were able to negotiate a two week "stay" for them, as long as we provide feed. If we do not ransom them by 3/28/08, they will be taken to the feedlot, and then on to the Mexican slaughter house. There are studs, pregnant mares, youngsters (6 mo > 2-3 yrs). They are all friendly, but most are likely untrained. Some seem like thay would make nice 4-H or children’s riding projects. The owner wants $275/each for them. At this point we do not have transport costs, as their placement is in progress. So far, by 3/28/08, we need: Horses (17 @ $275) $4,675 Hay (3 big sq bales @ $140) $ 420 Transport/other costs $ TBD Total $5,095 To help, please go to www.feedlothorses.com/current_rescueTHANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! Shirley" Click here for photos: forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=alexbrown&msg=20959.1

If the Mustang hasn't been in their possession for a full year it is still titled to the BLM and they cannot sell it. Please check the paperwork. Which Herd Management Area is the Mustang from?

This rescue isn't looking for homes... just donations, as I read it... am I correct? that pony with the feet looks horrible.

These horses are coming from a back yard breeder, from what I understand, they're his horses. And I believe that after they recue them with donations, they will adopt them out, but right now they are just looking for donations to save them all.
As stated on their website: "We submitted a grant today to the PetCo Foundation. The largest portion of the grant is for adding 25 stalls with runs to our current rescue facility and to help with feed and vet bills for the rescued equines, hopefully the 17 in the current rescue".

How are the donations coming for the ponies now, Nancik? I feel terrible that they won't be collecting funds for the crippled one until the very end...it should have been pulled first to alleviate the pain its in...IMO...
But in general, I like the way this rescue group works!

All 17 ponies/horse SAFE, including "Twinkle Toes", the little guy with the horrible feet.
No word on what is planned for Twinkie.
Beth may know, she was emailing Shirley directly about helping him.

I pledged the cost of euthanasia for him if it's determined that nothing can be done, and Shirley wrote back that they have 2 home offers if he CAN be saved. So hopefully he won't be in that condition much longer. He looks SO unhappy.

Well, looks like Founder Rehab will be getting Twinkle Toes from Nor Cal Equine Rescue. Poor little guy! The person who evaluated him in Reno said it would be best to transport him before any work is done on those feet, and I agree. He might be with us tomorrow.
Oh boy... now to evaluate by the vet and get work done on those feet.

If anybody can help him, it will be you and your sister. Would really like updates about him as I always learn so much from what you do.

OMG he is SO much worse than his pictures. He is obviously here... and I have some pics, but he is a body score of 1, and those hind feet are totally deformed, the left one 'wiggles' as he lifts it, and he walks with a totally odd wide stance pick up and flap down thing he is also more like a baby, not a 6 year old from his teeth... more tomorrow, we have to go to work , so gotta get to bed... we'll be sawing off some foot tomorrow, the left one wiggles and rams his leg with every step. poor thing has a huge sore there.... I'm not sure he is gonna be saveable... sorry guys.
