We need some prayers for Baby Hoogs.. I went to see him yesterday but he had already had his second visit from the vet.
Seems he must have swallowed/inhaled too much fluid (They said it took 2 of them to help him stand.. no way they could have picked him up to drain him even if they had known how much he needed it.
His temp yesterday was 103, this morning 102.7. His lungs are full of gunk, and Dr Doom and Gloom who will normally give you the worst case, was all too quiet they say when he did the exam (I have known and trusted this vet for over 20 years and thats a REALLY BAD SIGN)
It takes 3 people to get him separated from mom and given his injections. (Mom, who has had too many babies robbed from her at very young ages so she could return to the pee line, HATES and wants to SMASH them)
Angi and Chris are going over twice daily on their days off to help give him his shots.
He really REALLY is too cute and just as HUGE as he looks!
So jingle away for the little guy.

Temp was down to 101.4 and he was trying to jump and buck tonight! Vet is very pleased, he had told them not to panic if it was higher in the afternoon that it normally pikes a bit at that time of day.
So nearly normal temp and a lot more energy, Thanks for the prayers and jungles!
I'll add some pics from yesterday in a bit.

Been there, done that giving draft foals shots.... they are just too big and wise! We had a Suffolk punch PMU baby that had to get Naxcel twice a day for several days. Yea right... just hold him and give it!
Hope baby Hoogs gets better soon!

I am told Baby Hoogs is doing good. Temp is down and he is starting to act up a bit more, so they are feeling much better about him. Sadly had he been born on the PMU farm they probably would have just let him die.

From Chris at Lifesavers.... Tuesday morning, June 3rd, I arrived at the ranch to a wonderful sight.  Baby Paccione running around exploring his new world! Joan Marie finally decided it was time to share with the rest of the world what she has been carrying inside of her. He is beautiful, energic and curious.  This little fellow is on the move all the time. Joan Marie must work to keep up with him, rather than him trying to keep up with mom. Joan Marie arrived earlier this year with 3 other PMU mares. We have been waiting with great anticipation for the birth of their foals. Baby Hoogs was the first born last month. Then tragically June's foal was breech, too large and was still born. Claire's breeding at the farm did not take, so Joan Marie was the last that we were waiting for.  Happy Birthday Paccione! Welcome to the world!  |
