STILL no baby although we were sure she would have it during boot camp last weekend. She is having contractions, shifting weight, lifting tail, and laying down a lot. If she has it I'll go over and take pics. They are really hoping it isn't twins.. but they are used to having Mustangs foaling not drafties! June & Lacy

They have left them in their QT area because it has nice big stalls and an open area in front. Each girl (2 Belgin 2 Percheron) have their own stall and there's a spare.
Since Lacy looks like she will go first they are locking up the other girls at diner time and leaving her out. We stayed at the ranch on saturday night but no baby! Angi was there today, still no baby!
They are worried lacy might have more then one in there but being a PMU mare she wants no part of being touched, and at this point what would it solve to stress her with an exam. So they are just waiting until IT arrives.
As far as I know all will be up for adoption once the foals are weaned and they lead, tie, trim feet, and trailer load.

I realize that this may sound ignorant but doesn't the baby's size go to the mother and not the sire? I understood that if you breed a pony to a normal size horse or bigger, that the baby will only grow to fit the mother. Is this not true? I would think that IF that is true then this lady has a set of twins in there and somehow someone may have to help her....

the old broodmares often look ENORMOUS... our draft PMU rescues looked like this, and they each only had one... and had it no problems... on their own. :-) the big old 150# baby just slipped right out it seems... ahem... well... kinda. hehe. we're waiting for pics!!! we at founder rehab need some baby good vibes today... and happy thoughts... the cycle of life is far too obvious to us today..

Talked to Chris today... STILL no baby! She joked that the Percherons are probably going to foal before Lacy and we had a good laugh.
I'm thinking they named her after Lacy J Dalton. She is a wonderful Wild Horse Advocate (their logo horse for the Funshops is named Dalton)

Having gone overdue with both of my human babies, I can only say that I've been there, and it sucks! Give that mare some spicy feed! Take her on a trailer ride over train tracks! Stand by her hoo-hoo and sweet-talk that baby out of there!

Stand by her hoo-hoo and sweet-talk that baby out of there! Well, never having "been there and done that" myself, I don't have any first hand advice to offer. But, back in the long ago time when I used to deliver babies, we'd sometimes strip the membranes to induce labor. Anybody wanna put a finger up in there and see if you can strip this poor girl? Nah, I didn't figure any one would!

Lacy had the baby tonight!!! Bout 5 i am told it is a BLACK COLT so possibly half Percheron? Angi said he's huge and REALLY CUTE! Lacy had to get up and down a few times to get him out, and they had to call the vet to look him over because he was a bit down in his hinds. Doc said is a something hock but that he'll be fine. I know I promised pics but... My step daughter had her baby today too! So I am a Grandma!!! (as stepmom I'm like 4th in line.. 7th if you count Great Grandmas) So I might be going to OC tomorrow to see him. Dylan Lee Gross 7lbs 15 oz 20 inches Jennifer told Aunty Beth she could come to the hospital and see the baby but I'm not sure Grandma knew that when she called me ) So we are being patient and going tomorrow and you will have to wait til fri or sat to see pics!

Well CONGRATULATIONS all the way around! ;D ;D ;D Grandma Hood is good! Feed them cake and send them home. hehe Thanks Dean!! It is pretty exciting, but sad too since John is not here to share in it. But I'm gonna try not to cry when I see him, I promise! Beth is so excited to be an Aunty!! (and that it's from her biggest sister, the "other" redhead only makes it worse)

You're in luck! Chris sent out an announcement with pics!! ;D Welcome Baby HoogsThursday, May 8, 2008 11:30 AM From:"Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue" <info@wildhorserescue.org> Finally Lacy, the Belgin PMU mare Lifesavers brought in along with three others early this year, decided to give us a baby!!! Baby Hoogs was born yesterday around 5pm. He is doing well. HUGE! Lacy is an excellent Mom!!! It's a bit hot out here today, so we are keeping a close eye on the little guy. He is a little curb hocked in one leg, so we are getting him some supplements to help with that. Otherwise he is a healthy bouncing baby boy!!!! Now, we await three more babies. I will keep you posted! For those of you who don't know. All four of these mares came out of Canada and were mares they were collecting urine from to make the drug Premrin. These beautiful mares are now officially retired as baby factories. Once all have their babies, and we get them handling well, they will be available for adoption. Best wishes Chris Vilmer Assistant Manager Equine Operations Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue www.wildhorserescue.orgSaving Wild Horses...Taming Wild Hearts since 1997
