Modified to add, the babies will be easy to work with and will be mauled while they are here! Annie is doing great, REFUSING to eat grain, alfalfa pellets etc. I have tried molasses, syrup and applesauce...I am thinking I may have to go injectable, as she is not getting her antibiotics since I have been mixing them in her grain mush...she nibbles at it, but is not cleaning it up....more interested in the hay!! She ate it really good the first night, and now literally rolls her lip up at it! ACK! Will she eat plain ol oats? I tried EVERYTHING I could think of when Sun came down with Strangles to mix her smz's with and she wouldn't touch it. I finally ran them thru the coffee grinder (don't tell my hubby) and mixed them with oats and a little water and had no problem with her eating them She's going to be gorgeous! I will send some $ as soon as I can, our septic pump went out last weekend

Great Idea! I will try the oats tomorrow! I am desperate, I had tried SMZ's, then the Tucoprim.....Did not even think about plain oats! I have a little bit I feed the chickens as a treat when it's really hot out...worth giving it a shot! Sorry to hear about the septic, I had the same problem 2 years ago, had to put a whole new one in, yikes!

I want to get the 2 stud colts gelded as soon as they are strong enough (which will not be long) I may take them right over to the clinic and leave them there until that is taken care of!! You may want to ask about vacs and such. I think they made Michelle wait to geld for a bit after getting a tetanus shot. If they haven't had any vacs.. you may want to get that done first.

Oh my gosh! She is eating it! I mixed some plain ol' oats and the SMZ's ground up with a dash of good ol' H20 and she's eating it! It's hilarious, she has little pans in her stall of different mixes, alfalfa pellets, one with a bit of Merit senior, etc. and she chose the plain ol' oats! AAAAGH! How funny! BTW, I am in Springfield!! I had better get to bed, I have to be up EARLY.......Anyone know how I can post emailed pics of Annie on here??? Deb got some good ones earlier, gives you a better idea of what the wound looks like and her cute little face! I was cleaning her stall, completely ignoring her (But watching her nonchalantly) and she was very interested in what I was doing....picking up her poo and pee, spreading stall dry and fresh shavings.....She let me curry her some more, clean her wound and powder her down with lice duster...Was really great once I got a hold of her. She does a bit of a freak out thing when I first put her lead rope on, then is pretty good. I rubbed her all over and scratched her forehead, she loves that and drops her head down in submission and starts chewing

LMAO!!! Isn't it great! YAHOO! Sun did the same thing! I don't even remember all I tried to mix them in! I even tried stuffing them whole in apple chunks! Molasses, sryup, corn syrup, sugar water! We had an all out contest to see who could come up with the mixture she would eat! The oats were a "whatever!" I'll try anything!
I love it! Glad I don't have the only silly horse! ;D

Our vets are active in this case, and know the horses history...they will not do anything to jeopardize them for sure!

Hey guys, not much to report tonight....3 of the yearlings? are out and 2 others. They are at the clinic, I didn't get to help get them since NOBODY CALLED ME! Sheesh! I will have more info as soon as I talk to ______. I can't broadcast this over the internet, but we are trying to get as many out as possible. Annie ate a few bites of her oats last night with the smz's but did not finish. I am getting really frustrated and running out of ideas. I tried the 'Alfa glo' stuff, thinking if I splashed it with water and mixed her meds in she would eat it.....nope, took a bite and went back to grass hay....maybe I will pick up a bale of alfalfa and try it tomorrow......

As a rule, I feed smz's with applesauce/molasses in a syringe too...but this mare has been untouched her entire life, so that's not going to happen. I tried to inject her with Naxcel, that went over well...NOT! As soon as she felt the meds going in she went straight up! I think my finger is sprained pretty good (Ring finger), it hurts and is swollen! CRAP! I have tried every type of concoction I could think of, any ideas??? I have Tucoprim and Smz's......

well, when I got sundance we had to give him horse cough syrup, and within a day he was trying to mug me for the syringe... so, we keep that around to put any meds in for the tough characters... with others we use omalene, it's sweet but tastey I guess... and I now found that many of ours prefer I use oil to get it to stick, not water! so, slosh oil on, and it must cover the med taste.... that's my host of 'pearls'.... may the force be with you....
oh, last pearl... my sis works for a food distributor, and we started taking the broken bags of 'oats...' well, they are really rolled oats... aka oatmeal... and they all seem to LOVE them... might try that if she liked oats...

Me settle down?! HAH! I wake up, go feed the critters and clean stalls...drinking coffee as I do so...then get ready for work--go to work--come home---straight out to clean stalls and feed etc. (Nice thing about spring and summer is they are outside more, so not as many stalls to clean!)--Inside the house, try to do flight of the butterfly around the house and eat if I feel like it--then crash into bed....I honestly do not understand why I am overweight! I am constantly going!! Anyway, back to the lovely Miss Annabelle...who is certainly no longer an orphan! My friend I work with hauled 3 big bales of alfalfa to the barn for me and a bag of rolled oats (I am desperate). Anna Banana had eaten her meds in the alfa glow business! Yippeeeeeeee! I can't continue to buy that stuff though, at $12 bucks a bale, that is ridiculous! The plain ol' alfalfa is only $15! Hello! So, tomorrow morning I will put oil on some alfalfa and her meds and see if that works better! She stood like gold while I cleaned her stall, even lets me pick up poo under her without freaking out! She pooped out a HUGE bot, big and fat and nasty! HELLO! I flushed her wound out (Looking really good!), and scratched and curried her. There is a lovely coat under the shaggy, licey hair! She peeled her lip up smelling some food in front of my friend (Tech), she agrees she is about 2 years old. She is getting a bit saucy, and is more than ready to go out...but actually does seem pretty content in her 'room'. My friend who owns a compounding pharmacy is going to bring me some apple flavoring to put in her meds, so hopefully they will smell a bit more appetizing. Anyway, going to go out and check her one more time and give her an apple slice or two....

Ok guys, the oil and alfalfa thing is working like a charm! I let little Miss Anna Banana out today and let her cruise the barn lot, she is getting a little too feisty for her britches. It did her some good, she let me brush her right side (Didn't want me to this morning) and clean her wound out no problemo. She is loving her new home, I can tell! She is absolutely spoiled rotten, and has quite the personality! She walked into the barn tonight while I was mixing like a mad scientist. I purposely was ignoring her, and was watching her out of the corner of my eye. She walked up behind me and stood watching, sniffing the back of my head...then nipped my jacket! She ate beet pulp tonight with her handful of grain tonight AND her probiotics and horse guard! I think it really helped when she saw my piggy Morgan snarfling down his food and screaming at me.....She took one look at the fat pig and scarfed hers down!!! WHEEEW! I have quite an array of food products now in my barn, alfa glow, alfalfa pellets, oats, a bucket of molasses, a bottle of syrup....all things I was trying to use to get her to eat, and I am sure there are other things too! ugh! Oh well, I am sure I will find someone to eat it, though all of my horses are tick fat...they are so fat and full when I bring them in from the field that they don't slick up their beet pulp mix (I feed them that with their supplements)....pathetic....DH was worried animal control would be called out again, I said bring it! about 800lbs of grains and pellets, plus a barn full of hay....I think it will be clear that along with that and our tubby animals that we are not purposely starving the one!!! (Plus Cosequin ASU, GLC 5500, Missing Link, MSM, Flax, Thyro L, Horse Guard, Diamond V yeast, regular probiotics, A bucket of daily wormer, Lixotinic, and a ton of misc. paste wormers etc..Like I said, I feel like the mad scientist and need to clean out my med closet!!)

Anna Belle is doing great! Her wound is healing nicely, and she is putting the weight on! She will have her feet done this Wednesday (With the help of Dorm). She is really friendly, follows me around etc. and talks to me...but when I try to handle her outside of the stall, she really doesn't want any part of it. Her leg shows NO sign of any tendon damage! I put her in the round pen the other night, we had a lesson on how to 'show mom respect by paying attention and not turning our but to her'. This gal is so smart, she picked up immediately what I was trying to show her! I worked with her for about 2.5 hours last night, doing pressure and release etc...she is coming around nicely and actually has beautiful, floaty movement! She is going to make someone a very colorful, eye catching horse! She is not yet ready to be re-homed, but keep your feelers peeled, as she will have to be gone by winter. I do not have enough stalls to keep her! She is eating beet pulp etc. like nobody's business!

Annie got her front feet trimmed today! She did really good! We decided to only do her front feet, since she was kicky in the back. I wanted to keep the experience positive!! Her back feet are nasty, but I will keep working with her! She is doing so good, and now lets me pet her in the field. Keep in mind, this little lady had never been handled 21/2 weeks ago! I would say she is making really good progress! She follows me around the field like a puppy dog, and is in my face constantly so it makes it really hard to take pictures of her!!!
