I think this board has lost focus. There are not large rescue groups posting photos of their horses here anymore for the most part and I think that has led us into the false belief that we aren't doing anything. That is false. All of us as individuals have been rescuing this whole time and together we are a large rescue group.
Folks, please post a photo or story of any horse you have rescued this year, but most especially since April. I think we will be surprised by how much we are all doing quietly behind the scenes without any drama.

RUSTICRustic is a 4 year old Quarter Horse gelding that I rescued from the Hermison auction. I had not intended to get any horse from the Hermiston auction because it is so far away from me and I felt that transportation home would be a problem. Well, all that changed when I saw Rustic go through the ring. He is a smaller bay roan boy with a baby doll head and a birth defect one of his hind legs. He was ridden through the sale and they said that he had 45 days of training on him. He behaved very well in the ring, but the only one to bid on him was the KB... so I did. After the auction I went to take some photos of him and he would not stay far enough away from me in order to get the shots. He was puppy dog friendly and thought I was his new best friend. It turns out transportation was not a problem. When I went to pay for him, some gal had tacked her number to the office wall and said that she was transporting horses along the I-5 corridor in OR and WA. Perfect! Turns out that she had one spot left and that her rates were very reasonable. When Rustic got home he immediately went out in the field and did the whole run-buck-fart routine with the rest of the herd. He is faster and more agile then any of them and doesn't seem to realize that he has anything wrong with his leg at all. He has already seen one vet and although he is healthy as a horse, the vet had a very negative outlook on his future as a riding horse. He is going to see my regular vet later today so that I can get a second opinioin and some exrays.

We have rescued a few this year, in our local area. first was Twinkle, who we called Blaze. He was one of many ponies that were rescued from a man who was breeding ponies then came down with parkinsons and stopped caring for them properly. This pony was a couple of years old, and had severe deformities of his rear hooves, and back, and no coffin bones in his hind feet. He was a body score of 1, and was covered in matts and soaked in urine which had burned his belly to blisters.
We were able to feed him, bathe him and trim his feet... he gained weight and grew to know love and human kindness... but that wouldn't prove to be enough for him... so with heavy hearts we gave him the ultimate gift and let him fly free for the first time... We still miss Blaze.
We recently got a mare at auction, who was selling to a man for meat price... and although not a meat buyers' type auction, we couldn't help worrying... so we bid up and brought home Mocha. She is a lovely Liver Chestnut 16 year old QH mare, who is settled in and we might see how she rides this weekend! she rode in the auction but was quite amped and nervous... so, we will see.
I'll edit with pics later today!

I helped get a Pryor Mustang mare into a new home with the assistance of the Cloud Foundation and their connections to other Mustang owners from that wild horse reserve. We still have Gypsy, whom we have had ownership of since Dazz passed on, but only just got her from the boarding situation 2 months ago and started working with her. When she is rehomed, we will take on another one. I try to work with Chatty long distance on coordinating North Idaho horses in trouble.
