I have found a new home for my last rescue who is a 16.3H 1300 pound TB . he has trust issues and is afraid of the trailer and anything around his feet, they were drugging him for any work for farrier or vet was told he just doesn't like the size of small trailers but is more than that. I brought him home in my friends trailer, an oversize 2 horse slant and even that took time. (I do not have access to that trailer as he's out of town) I don't want to resort to sedatives but need to get him to his new home. I do not have a stock trailer and need to load him in my regular 2 horse slant. we have been unable to load him. I have never tried the "be Calm" but know they use it prior to stressful events. am wondering if anyone has and how if seemed to work. I would just like him to be able to not panic and maybe get through it as a positive experience,he has obviously had some really bad ones.

If he's been raced, remember that going into and standing in a trailer is very much like a starting gate. A lot on anxiety can happen. If you can get the trailer level to the ground a little trick I have used is backing them in. ;D

The only time I've used it was prior to trailering my two mares to their new home a year ago. Unfortunately, I gave it to them after they were already upset, so it didn't work very well. I should have used it when they were in their pasture and relaxed, but instead I waited until I had them out of the pasture down by the barn. Then they were agitated etc. so I can't say I gave it a fair try. We ended up sedating them for the move, which did then go just fine.
I hope you find a way to help him get through this transition; it's great that you're putting so much thought in to it ahead of time!
