4 of the 6 yearlings we picked up in Reno came from Jackson Mountain HMA. The HMA sounded familiar.. I didn't know why, but just spotted the answer.
Jackson Mountain was the HMA that had run low on water in it's tanks and the horses were trapped waiting for a chance to drink from the trickle that was coming outof the well. As soon as it was discovered an emergency gather was done, but many of the horse because of the dehydration then had a battle to get back to good health.
So these babies certianly had the tenacity and fortitude to have survived such a rough start.. and just look at how beautiful they are! No wonder Sera finds so much delight in her pool ;D I think she has earned the right to play in it all she wants!
I'll add a video of her playing in it at some point.. I have to keep a smaller tub of water because she walks in it and digs, and one of our dogs has started playing in the pool too. (I have to dump it pretty often because it gets full of dirt and hay.)

Look at them! They are so beautiful. ;D LOL Dean, I walked Dyna acros the street to Tys place and he has 3 ostriches that Dyna thought for sure wanted to EAT her! Shes usually pretty staid so I just led her past a few times and let her look at them and then she was fine. I was looking at her bitted up and thinking I should start her on a cart, since we aren't sure if she is 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 Has to be something like that since it will be 2 years next week since she hit the lot. I LOVE this pic of Dandy! I mean is that a contented baby or what? Mom lets him get away with too much, but he gets plenty of Grandma time, Delite does not put up with being jumped on! It seems to be helping.. except we let Sera out with him and he plays really rough with her and she has no idea how to take it. Just looks at him as if to ask what she did. Finding out Seras babyhood was tarnished by a dried up cistern, dehydration, and then living through the salmonella outbreak that followed tells me a bit about why she may be so tenacious and serious minded. Her only real play time so far is her pool and she loves to play in the water. One of Beths friends adores her, and Sera seems to like her a lot as well. We may be taking Sera over to stay with Brittney for a few days to let her mom see how they get along. Brittney is hoping Mom will say adopting Sera can be her birthday present.

Oh my gosh, that picture of Beth scratching Dandy's behind should be entered for an award somewhere. That is too funny.
Nice job with the horses.

Wow, wonderful pix! Could your horses BE any shinier? or, well-fed? They are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks! I like to think they are happy. Sym and Tiff both got their teats cleaned so I know they are both HAPPY right now!! They love getting that itchy flaky stuff out of there! The shine is courtesy of some very nice locally grown 4 way add a little bit of alfalfa and viola!

Love the video too. Dandy is such a cutie. He looked pretty surprised by the smackdown HEHEHEHE I don't know why it isn't the first time he tried to jump in her face... She has only nipped him hard enough to remove a tiny spot of hair on his rump once.... and she seems to watch out for him, and calls to him if he goes too far away, but she does not let him dis her!!! This is the sort of behavior that needs to be address 24/7 in these guys. It's what got my vets neck broken when an orphan yearling reared up (just like this) bit and struck him, and continued biting him after he was on the ground twitching! Scared the CRAP out of the girls in the office, and the owner that created the monster! They LOVE my horses though as mine would not think even once about flattening a human, though back in the day, Symphony did consider squishing a few against things ;D Hmmm actually that was pretty much just Angi and she deserved it LOL.

My filly (5-6 months at the time) reared and (lightly) struck the vet tech in the chest. Luckily there were no injuries. It was a real eye-opener for me, not being experienced w/babies) but the vet tech had worn a thick, leather vest just in case . . .
