I know that a few of you regularly take in horses, rehab them and then find good homes for them. I would really like to have a discussion about how you are able to find them homes, check out the people and make sure the horses end up with the right people. I would love to foster and rehab a horse but I can't KEEP another horse. I know it is extremely difficult in todays environment to place horses. Some of you seem to be pretty successful at it. Anyone want to share your secrets?? ;D

No secrets to it.
Have the adopter come and spend time with the horse and ride it. Make sure there's a good fit and they can handle the horse well. Have them come out a few times before they make the decision. Have THEM, catch, tack up do everything they'd do at home.
Adoption contract: Make sure it states they cannot re-home/sell/or move the horse without your prior knowledge and approval. No breeding clause. No auction clause.
Call their references. Go out and see where the horse will be.
Check back in with them. Make sure everything is working out and keep an open line of communication. Let them know to call you if a problem arises.
Even with all the above it is still not foolproof. Everyone out there no matter how hard we try will eventually have an adoption go bad. If it does, do the right thing and take the horse back!

I know the people, what thier looking for in a horse...Then when one comes in they visit them...At the time of coming out of QT they may take them home...If things don't work out they call and we pick up the horse....
Have one nice boy, 7 yo Reg appy gelding (broke, loads, stands for feet, and so on and so on)..Came back because he didn't get along with others...He is one of eight in my field and yes he can be a butt head at times....Names Reno...
I've had people who wants their horses potty trained (won't potty in the barn), only Registered, big fancy back grounds, you name it....A rescue is a rescue....Not a made to order horse...
All my horses find homes when their ready, not when their wanted... This is why I like our people (RO, CBER, SOS) to adopted or refer people...We all know some one looking and know a bad apple from a good one....
