It would have been more if they accepted the Care Card as you can get deferred interest from 6 to 1(?) year depending on amount spent. :-( I just know how I would feel if this was my girl (horse), and I want to see a HAPPY outcome for Apollo and the family! Again...Go APOLLO!!!!

this is an URGENT update. I recieved an email from Debbie today(apollos owner). They are so thankful for all the donations and thoughtfulness - BUT because apollo's eye continues to swell horribly and is at the point that they can't get it under control - they are looking at putting this kid to rest. They hate seeing him suffer - and I don't blame them at all! If we are going to be able to help them save Apollo - It will have to be VERY VERY soon. They don't want to put him through any more suffering. They ARE open to re-homing him to someone who will give a WRITTEN contract guarantee that he will immediately recieve the needed procedure. They will follow up with the vet that does the surgery and a first right of refusal contract will also need to be given. They love this guy and want to find a way to help him not be in horrible pain Any thoughts?? Sara

Today from Debbie:
Beautiful Gelding in need (Caldwell) Reply to: sale-790993201@craigslist.org Date: 2008-08-10, 6:29PM MDT
We are putting the word out again for Apollo, he is a beautiful 9yr old Black and White Paint Gelding, he has been diagnosed with Squamous that has formed a tumor in his left eye. It is time for us to make a decission, and we can not afford the recommended treatment, even though a fund has been started it is going very slowly and we know Apollo is suffering. So we are looking for a home who might be interested in saving him by providing the surgery needed. He is an awesome trail horse and this is the type of home we are looking for. Trails only. We do not want to stress him any more by running rodeo event on him, as he will end up with only one eye. All ages have riden him, he is very sweet and willing. Unfortunately, the tumor in his eye must be treated for him to live a normal life. Please reply to this email, or give us a call, if you are interested in Apollo. Thank You for your interest 208-453-1288 Debbie

I feel so bad for this guy. His surgery would have been performed last week if only their vet clinic took the Care Card. All I can do now is jingle, jingle, jingle and pray for a miracle of help for him. Hugs to Apollo and his family....

I knjow that this is a very hard decision for this family. They really do want the best for him. Is anyone interested in taking this kid and having the surgery done? He is a sweet and extremely well trained horse - he deserves a chance. At this point -funds donated would go towards helping with the surgery bill. Anyone? Sara

WOW - due to a GENEROUS offer we potentiall have the full cost of surgery covered for Apollo - HOWEVER - The owners are under a little pressure to find apollo a home where hsi only job will be trails and general purpose stuff. Is anyone out there interested in this really cool horse? He is sound, well trained and sweet as pie. I know that they will keep him rather than have him go somewhere he should not be. I will let the "donation angel" come forward We haev left messages for Apollo's family and hope to be in touch soon. Sara

Until today that was my understanding as well - but they can not afford to have him and another and are concerned about pushing him to do rodeo and speed events with limited vision. I know that he will stay through recovery and they are not rushed to place him, as a perfect home is a must.
This guy has truely gotten a miracle and because of it will live a long, happy, and healthy life!!!

Hello Equine Community and Apollo's Guardian Angel!! Taylor, Apollo and I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard, and worried, prayed and gave for Apollo. We have completed the gift to cover the surgery cost. Apollo goes in for a pre-op visit tomorrow, and will be scheduled for surgery shortly after wards.
We felt like we were losing hope, and were facing a very difficult decision to end his suffering, we were not sure we could keep him. Now, he will get healthy, happy and we can keep him and Love him! He will have to under go follow up visits, but we are hoping this will all go well. I get very nervous thinking about him going under anesthetic, but look forward to babying him when he comes home.
Taylor will most likely not run the rodeo events on him, (I am sure he will not mind that) as he is an excellent trail horse and will enjoy the easy life.
I would like to attach a 'before' and 'after' pictures of Apollo's eye but the attach image does not work for me, can anyone give me a tip on that?
I will post more updates as we go along.
We really wanted to say thank you for the second chance for Apollo and for letting us keep our boy! It is nice to know there is a true family out there in the wonderful world of horses.
Debbie
