I found this ad on CL if anyone can help. portland.craigslist.org/clk/grd/764492851.htmlHate to put this horse down!! 88% Foundation Palamino Mare AQHA (Woodland, Wa 98674) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply to: sale-764492851@craigslist.org Date: 2008-07-21, 5:37PM PDT Just turned 3yr. The nicest mare you will ever meet. Very fun personality!! Has gone through 3 weeks of ground driving/training, getting ready for riding. Not spooky in anyway. Should go into riding with not a problem. Anyways, she has a tooth in the upper back of her mouth that won't come down. The root is curled. She needs surgery, to completly extract the tooth and clean out the sinus. All this is to be done at the Columia Equine Vet in Gresham. I was just there today for her evaluation. It will cost between $3200-$3600 to have this done. The surgery is for next week. She has to have this done, it can't be put off any longer. I can't afford it and willing to give her away to someone as long as they will do it. I have all the papers from the Equine Dentist to show you and you can call and talk to him. This is a very sweet horse with no other problems. She does everything else just perfect! Very safe for kids to be around her. 360-225-0904

God. The equine dentist in the next town to me could do this surgery for $800, so there must be others who could as well. Even with the gas to bring her here it would be less than they quoted her. There must be other equine dentists in the area, does anyone know of someone to recommend to this woman?

I wonder if she called around, just really likes this clinic or was referred. She's in Woodland which isn't close to Gresham where the clinic is.
I'll find out . .

Here's her reply when I asked if/why she preferred Columbia Vet and if she had gotten more than 1 referral and cost comparison "They actually have to cut her face open to get the tooth out, and it's a really big operation. I just didn't want to get too detailed until someone was really interested. I am hoping for the best!!" Poor baby!

one of our horses had to have this surgery done when he was older. They cut a hole in his jaw and we had to keep his face packed with gauze for some time his food would come out the side of his face when he chewed it healed up nicely with appropriate care. I don't think it was close to that expensive but it is not cheap this was about 7 years ago. Our horse later died of old age. but at least he could chew after that.
