I'm not familiar with color, when the horses will settle on the color they will end up being, etc.
One of the Mustangs that are "visiting" has the same roaning that Trevor has. Buddy is a bay (I think they call it blood bay?), and I noticed yesterday that he does have roaning on his belly and his flanks, just like lil' Trevor gets in the summer.
Is that very common in horses and doesn't mean anything, or could he possibly be a bay roan, down the road? Right now if you look at him from a somewhat distance, he looks totally bay, but when you get closer, you can definitely the white hairs.
I just never seen that in a horse, other than Trevor, and he's only 2. Is there an age when they will be the color they'll be for the rest of their lives?
Thanks

Symphony has flank roaning too, and it has increased each year but is still not noticable at a distance. It is called Rabicano. www.equinecolor.com/rabicano.htmlIt it is just the flanks, a lighter muzzle, and behind elbows that is Pangare www.equinecolor.com/modifiers.html#mealy

He seems more like the Rabicano, however, I don't see the tail coloring (yet). Same with Trevor. Can that still be coming in?

LOL - he is "HORSE" color! LOL The color thing makes me dizzy..... Lucky me - growing up and raising QH's - we had every variety of bay, sorrel, chestnut and a few Blue roans(badger babbies!) nothing fancy lol.....

ok, so what's this... bright bay with light tan between the back legs extending to the skin between the belly and back legs, a stripe of dense white hairs (although not a solid stripe) down the back (like a dun stripe), scattered white hairs mainly in middle section shoulder and upper butt, skunk tail, and some white hairs in the mane?
what do you call that?
it doesn't really look just rabicano.. maybe the beginning of rabicano? what else?
swissgrl, that's how my horse started out. At 2 she didn't have much white, and 2 years later... tada! white everywhere. Every shedding season is a new horse.

LOL, it's like Christmas, every season a new looking horse.
I figured since poor little Buddy has so much against him, maybe having a cool color name might help him a bit. That and just the most adorable little personality..... ;D
