OMG! We just had a 5.8 earthquake about 80 miles away...near Pomona. I was sitting here at my computer and at first just felt a slight "wave"...nothing big. BUT...then it grew and grew. Pretty soon the dogs were barking, my wind chimes were all moving, and glasses on shelves were jingling! This was a fairly good-sized earthquake. I'm a native Californian and I was actually holding my breath, trying to decide what to do! Oh, boy! What a ride!

yeah, we felt it here in San Diego too. My co-worker jumped under his desk. Took me a while to realize it was an earthquake.... By then it was just about over

I hate earth quakes. Hope all is ok!
I remember when i was in highschool in 1992(yes, it ages me) we had a 6.2 earthquake in K. Falls. This is an area that NEVER gets quakes. Had a long run of aftershocks and the whole deal as well. I can remember never feeling so scared!! Plus, my whole perfume rack that was hung above my toilet fell IN the toilet breaking all the bottles - so the fumes in the house were sickening!
then - several years ago John and I were in a scarry little chinese resturant in Tacoma and we had a good sized quake - Threw us BOTH on the floor and tipped our table over on us.... scared and covered in icky food.... how refreshing lol.
I certainly hope that your quake was not a precurser for other stuff!! AHHHHHHH

from what it sounds like there were only minor damages, and injuries. I guess the Quake was felt all the way to Las Vegas, and down into Mexico (Tijuana).

Barb, I was working in downtown LA (my pre-teaching days), on the 28th floor of a 40 story building, for a law firm. It was during the Northridge quake! I arrived early that morning, since I carpooled. My floor supervisor came RUNNING around the corner SCREAMING "Get away from the windows! They are the first thing to go!" to all of us who were there and watching the large chandelier SWINGING back and forth! But, the scariest thing was to actually hear the steel girders in the building moan and groan and creak. I didn't think I'd survive to ever see my children again. It was a very humbling experience. After that, we moved back to the desert and back to single story buildings!!!! Now my school is just a few miles from the San Andreas fault!!!

Glurp! Too much excitement!
I was working at an MRI facility in Marin when the Loma Prieta quake hit, in a building built on landfill (ah, yeah, great idea in earthquake country, folks!). The shifting in the soil caused the building to shift, which resulted in the door to the MRI itself getting wedged shut. We had a patient in the scanner, and we couldn't get in there to get them out! REALLY SCARY!! Finally we were able to force it open with about 4 of us pushing on the door. That poor patient, didn't have claustrophobia before hand but sure did afterwards!
I'm glad you SoCal'ers are all ok! Now we wait to see who's next!

Oh Scary! That poor patient!
I was at the airport when I heard about the LA quake, and said a quick prayer for you RO'ers down that way. I am really happy that Tasha, and Swissy, and Jen and all the rest of you are a-okay.
My house sits on the side of a hill, and every once in a blue moon, we see the water in our glasses burble. If the big quake hits Portland, It'll be a wild ride down to the bottom of the hill!

That was just a lil'bitty one!!!!! (No, didn't feel it up here in NorCal)
During the Loma Prieta quake, I was ticked off at my boss for not letting me have the day off to go watch the Giants vs. A's world series. The quake struck as I was driving hom and I thought my POS Pontiac Le Mans (college, no funds for a nice car) was cr@pping out on me again. I pulled over and then realized it was a quake. Went home, and my room mate Darren had thankfully put beer in the fridge earlier in the day.
Power was out, so we drank a couple of beers and then heard that El Torito had power, so decided to go for Margarita's, Mex Food, and to watch the game. THAT is when I got scared, because driving over we heard that it was a 7.0 possibly, that the Bay Bridge had collapsed (my parents had driven to the game at Candlestick PArk, but wasn't sure when they'd gone, we tend to be late for things....), before cell phones so couldn't reach them and didn't hear from them for hours.......
Up until that point the quake and after shocks were fun. And yes, they were all okay. I got some really cool pics in downtown Oakland afterward...

1 year after that Earthquake I had surgery on my broken leg. Last thing I remember the surgeon say before I went under is: "wow, you guys realize today is the 1 year anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake? I hope that's not a bad sign" That, to this day is something I will never forget, I remember thinking, GET ME OUT OF HERE....... Next thing I woke up in recovery
