Spoke with this family yesterday and my point was well made... short story is that they decided to keep him, but the point was in-grained...
I told them to beware of kill buyers...
they said, 'no kill buyers came',
I went on to describe how they would never know... how they 'disguise' themselves, and described one that I've read on the TBFriends journal a few times... comes this cute guy, mid 30's, with his 'wife and kids' (who are really a rental) and they ooh and ahh... and say how their beloved old horse just recently died, and they just are in LUUUV with this one, and how htey have a lush 5 acres, blah blah blah, all a script. They are actors. He is a kill buyer, they are neighbors earning a buck.... even the kids.
well, to my surprise, the two looked at each other strange, I said 'what?', and yep, that was the folks that they were convinced were PERFECT and nearly gave Buck to, and then Heather's mom backed out of letting him go.
point taken. they thought they were the ultimate of good judges of folks... and thought this couple was AWESOME... just PERFECT... a sweet young family, to love Buck forever.
huh. NOT. they came 'this close' to shipping poor Buck to slaughter.
I certainly hope they learned.
