Is anyone going to go up to Buck Creek on Saturday and do the Backcountry Horsemans prize ride? We are going up tonight and making a weekend out of it. Just thought it would be fun to see a friendly face with another rescue horse. Its little Turtle's first experience doing a prize ride. Hope to see some of you there.

After the weekend of riding there, tell us how you liked it. I've heard good things about this location but haven't riden there yet.
I am a member of another chapter of Backcountry Horsemen. I was planning to have our Ladies ride there next weekend. Luckily I called the ranger station early in the spring and they told me there is a mountain bike competition scheduled for the same weekend. That is not a good combination.
I would like to hear what you think of the trails. Maybe I'll try again for next year but I'll schedule first.

I have only ridden the lower trails because in the past I was riding my 35 yr old gelding and didnt want to take him up that steep of terrain and now with Turtle being green on trails I feel safer on the lower trails. They are ususally pretty well maintained we have been up there twice so far this year. The horse camping area is nice but limited to parking spaces. On the other side of the airstrip is more parking and you just set up highlines. You do have to watch out for mountain bikers and hikers but its much better now that they dont allow motorcycles up there.

Im such a proud mama......Turtle did awesome. He was very nervous with all the other horses and he did buck/crow hop for just a bit when we first got started but then he settled down and did great! We went across a bridge over a creek and threw all kinds of woods and by the river. The only time that he got a little upset was when horses were behind him. He never acted like he would kick but I wouldnt put it past him. He handled the highline great so no problems there. His next big adventure is the beach in two weeks.
