Well Turtle and I survived the beach this weekend. I had serious doubts on Saturday, heres how our adventure started........So we got to our destination at Ocean Acres ( I highly recommend this spot) around 2pm and the owner had us turn the boys out in the huge round pen while we were setting up camp and getting things settled. My husband Ken said to me " I think you better turn around and look at what Turtles doing". So I turn around to see Turtle take a jump straight up and all 4 of his legs go a different direction. He then proceded to do a series of bucks and a few times he reared up and balanced so well on his hind legs you would have thought he was a ballerina dancer. So it was about that time that I started thinking what in the blue he!! have I done and whose bright idea was it to come to the ocean on a green horse? So we decided that maybe riding right away wasnt the best idea. I worked him in the round pen in the deep sand and boy did that adjust his attitude. The next morning we got up and had a wonderful breakfast and then saddled up for our ride. I again worked him in the round pen until he was huffing pretty good and then we took off. I have to say that he handled the beach very well, he snorted a bit but took everything in stride. I didnt even attempt to go near the water as I didnt want to have a rodeo and I figured that I was pretty pleased with his effort. The rest of the weekend went pretty well we got rained on but had fun anyways. We drank a really good bottle of wine and just relaxed. Our next adventure is back to Buck Creek for the prize ride there on Sunday Sept 7th. I will post pictures soon, I forgot the digital camera. On the way home we stopped at a new winery that was pretty good. Westport Wineries has only been open for 4 months but its really cute and about 10 miles from Grayland/Westport if anyone wants to check it out.
