I thought I'd throw this out there in case any of you know the answer. I'm considering offering Pippin (CBER Spirrah) on a "free lease" if that's the right term. I'm looking for someone who wants to spend some time with horses but doesn't have the money to do a real lease or own, who might be interested in coming out a few times a week to play with her (ground work only) and do grooming, or just bonding stuff. She is getting pretty bored and with my work schedule lately I just haven't had time to spend with her as she deserves. She won't be rideable ( ), so I'm not looking for someone to turn her into a saddle horse for free, I'm just hoping to find someone who might like to spend time with her, no cost to them and no extra cost to me. Would I call that a "free lease" or is there even a term for what I'm offering? mkgbuegel has offered to help me word my ad (thought I'd post on Craigslist) but I just didn't know what to even call this. What do you guys think?

I wish I lived in CA! This is a great idea. I recently got up enough courage to send out a plea to the Spokane area SOS rescue folks asking if maybe I could come visit some of the rescue horses. It's been such a long time since I've touched a velvet nose, untangled a mane, watched a horse nibble on the grasses, took a walk, just hung out together. I have missed that all these years. I cannot afford a horse, but the desire never left. I think someone in your area will jump at this opportunity.

We have people posting on CL here every few weeks looking for just such an opportunity. Of course most want to eventually ride, but if you're clear you shouldn't have a problem.
I probably wouldn't give the situation a specific definition, but would just post exactly what the situation is.
