Ok, I am dealing with an old school cowboy type here guys.....so keep an open mind ;D How in the heck can I explain to him (He thinks I am crazy) why I feed the following? I have tried and tried to explain to him why I feed and do the things I do sigh****** He thought I was crazy when I told him I cleaned his horses sheaths....I have been helping my friend Cindy with the rescue horses, and the cowboy we are dealing with is actually her husband. He is old school, and figures a salt block and hay is good enough--grain in the winter when it's cold We are feeding Diamond V yest sp, Horse Guard, and ground flax seed mixed in with their grain.......Anybody have a good article I can print out to show him?! BTW, the horses are looking FANTASTIC!!!! Chel

Hi Chel - Ya know - I deal with this all the time - Here is what I would tell him FIRST - with the sheath - if he doesn't get it - tell him it is like an uncircumsized man who gets ick in the end It has to be cleaned out and someone needs to do it for them - at least a couple times a year! Bring it home! Tell him that "if you couldn't clean up down there - don't you think you would start to feel gross and rank?" Well - that is what happens for a horse! Explain the feed thing this way - Hay/pastures used to have more nutrition - and feeding just hay/salt was fine - but the hay doesn't have as much in it now(even if it does!) so you feed the vitamins so that he doesn't get run down and loose energy. Tell him you don't like working with a dead head horse and that by feeding the vitamins it keeps him spunkier! Again, bring it home... lol. Keep it simple for the old schoolers. I deal with ALOT that think that way. If you try to get to scientific they assume you are a freak show hippie lol! Keep it real - make it crudely basic. Tell him that the hay and pastures aren't what they used to be, so to give the horse some pep you feed the other stuff too. give that a shot!!! Sara
