loosing fur

my arab seems to be going bald..... sort of.

He is loosing his fur on his back legs, it's kind of between the Stifle and the Gaskin area. He doesn't have bald spots, but you can definitely tell that his fur has thinned out quite a bit.

Has anybody else ever had anything like this happen? He is acting normal and eating fine.

He's always had very thin and slick fur in the summer, but never have I seen it like this, he almost looks like he's a different color in that area.

Sounds to me like he is rubbing his hips Sounds silly - but my guys are doing it right now - I think the buggs are bothering them more and they will rub themselves in that area on trees and even the sides of their stalls. Is it posible that is what is happening???

I also know that when my QH lays on one side too much the fur in that area starts to ge rubbed out as well.

Try putting some of the microtek gel on it after washing the area well with Mane and Tail PROTECT shampoo or another antimicrobial product.

Did you by any chance use TopSpot or any other topical long-acting fly repellants there? My mare lost all her hair along her back when I used one of those. I never used it again. I don't remember now which one it was I used, though (doh! Forgot to write it down).

I have used one of those, but not in that area. That' was the first thing I was thinking off too, if there was anything I used on him. But I hadn't.

Sara, he does have fly allergies, and did get a shot for it about 1 month ago. I've seen him rub his neck, but not the butt area. I will try the gel anyways.
