With our long dry summer, there have been several cases of Pigeon Fever here in the Springfield/Eugene area. Please make sure you are keeping your kids well protected with good fly control!

Not fun stuff - I agree - keep your barns clean and use heavy fly control - especially if youa re in the dryer, more eastern areas as that is the areas that it tends towards Sara

It has been found at Rockcreek horse trails and many others. Vets are recieving hourly calls of horses that have pigeon fever. This is a REAL outbreak. I have been advised to not move horses to any public facilities or trails for at least 55 days. The disease can be harbored in the soil for 55 days. It is passed by flies and is transmitable between horses and cattle. This is not usually fatal but is very NASTY! I have a link along with this e-mail to explain more. I will not be allowing any haul-ins for lessons untell further notice. For that safty of all animals. I will travel to your property to give lessons still if you would like. A barrel horse has been proven to have pigeon fever and is belived to have gotten it at rockcreek. The animal has sence been to the Saddle club and the Fair Grounds. So beware horse owners! There is no Vaccine for Pigeon Fever, and very little you can do for treatment. www.completerider.com/ucolorado/PIGEONFEVERINEQUINES.html Location: every where it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests PostingID: 843225885 No contact info? if the poster didn't include a phone number, email, or other contact info, craigslist can notify them via email. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2008 craigslist, inc. terms of use privacy policy feedback forum

On the SOS horse rescue board, two members now have it in their horses in the Walla Walla area. Bad, bad, bad stuff.

Awe, yes....Pidgeon Fever. Unfortunately I got some learnin' on that subject over the past week. Thankfully, not with my horse, but one of the pasture horses that was QT'd in the barn per their vet's okay. (Huh?!?!?!!!!!!) So now we're watching and waiting and hoping that Utzi is the only one to get it.........
