Iris was injured and had to be put down today, all of us at HyTyme are devestated by the loss of Iris. Here is the note about what happened I got from Collette our barn manager. We had to put down Iris today. She deeply cut and punctured her front knee, we don't know how she did it. Luckily she trusted me enough to halter her and bring her out for the vet to look at but she absolutely would not let the vet touch her. We painstakingly managed to get some Ace in her which didn't do a thing (it didn't seem) then I managed to get two needles into her to give her some heavier sedatives. What an ordeal! Ugh!! Jim, Sherry, the vet and I tried to think of anything that might work with her. That poor girl had so much embedded fear that she occasionally would just "loose it" and start lunging in circles completely having an anxiety attack. I am glad that Iris got to be here her last years! She was surrounded by caring people and she got to know alot of us. I am so happy to have gotten to work with her for a while, she taught me alot about abused horses. It's sad to know that she won't be in the barn whinnying a few times a day asking for some extra oats. I could always see her shadow and her pointy little ears even when it was getting dark, she let me know she was there, waiting patiently I will miss her! I know alot of you will as well..... -- Collette

Oh how sad.... that poor horse went through so much. I'm so happy she was able to recover from her "former life" and be healthy and loved the past few years. She was always a very special animal and deserved her happy years with HyTyme

I'm so sorry Iris had to be put down. She was quite a story. I'm also very happy that she was able to spend the last few years at HyTyme, where she got the love and care she so deserved. My thoughts are with all of you. RIP sweet girl!

Oh....I'm so very sad. I was actually the "banker"/cheerleader for Iris back in the old days of fundraising for the horses that didn't have outright adoptions in place. I am so sad to hear she is gone. My condolences and big thanks to everyone at HyTyme who loved her and showed her that humans can be good... May you Rest In Peace, Dear Iris.

I am sorry to hear about Iris. She really touched my heart when I first went to visit her after HyTyme got her from CCG. The last time I saw her, earlier this year, she looked so good.

Our heartfelf thanks to all of those of you for your condolences. It has been a very sad time at Hytyme, as Iris was very special to all of us here. It was planned she would remain here for the rest of her life with the hope that it would be a very long time. It was just not meant to be. However, she left a legacy behind which speaks so desperately how many other horses need our help as well. Please see our tribute to her at hytymeequinerescue.net. Rest in peace, Sweetheart......Hytyme staff & volunteers.

Jim and Sherry I am so sorry you had to say goodby to Iris. We all know you loved her very much. I know she appreciated you just letting her be a horse and not asking her to do anything that she was afraid to do. She will be missed. Thank you for giving her the love she needed :'(RIP Sweet Iris
