Starving horses need help ~ Chattaroy, WA

My name is Dale. We are having some problems with the people next door to us there horse are being starved you can count every bone in there body. We have contacted the sherrifs department and our local Animal Shelters. They will do nothing about this issue. Please if we can get everyones help on this matter to call and try to get something done. That would be great. Animals cant talk we have to do the talking for them. I do have some more picture i can send you in private if you would like. The Animal Shelter told me that they sent some on out there and told me that the horse are being feed. There is no hay on that place what so ever the horse keep getting out and coming to my place for food. Also you can count every bone on this horses body and they tell me that they are not in that bad of shape. They are not going to die for this. They need to get a better set of eyes. PLEASE HELP.

UPDATE 9/19/08 3:30 PM

Scraps came back out today and looked at the place again and told me that there was hay on the floor of the barn. The call the leaf and stim that fall off the hay when you feed it that is hay but there is no bales of hay and "the hay on the floor is going to feed 4 horse for how long."

As luck would have it i was talking to the guy at the end of there drive way when the owner of the horse got home she told the A/C that she has no hay but has been feeding them grain. Can you Believe that . He didnt make them go get any hay at all. This is just crazy. He told me that the horses are alittle thin but not to bad "please look at this picture and tell me what you think" or am i the crazy one. He also to the owners that he was sorry for all the trouble i have put them throw. Can you believe this?

What should i do next. Alot of the stuff you guys have helped me with i have been in contact with a lot of things you guys have suggested.

This is very frustating.

The AC officer thought that horse looked okay? Were his eyes open? Thats just awful, is the owner willing to give any of them up?

Unbelievable how ignorant AC is being in this situation. Hopefully the attention it is getting will bring about changes.

Is there any chance anyone could ask them to surrender them or outright purchase them?
I know it is a tough uphill climb. We have been watching two horses in our area, and have had numerous calls and emails on them. We have offered to purchase them outright to no avail. The animal control officer (and, by the way he is a great guy) checks on them constantly too, but unfortunately these owners are blind to the suffering these horses are enduring. We can only hope that in time, the owners will see the light before it is too late.

Ok so I went to the other forum to follow up with this case-and it seems that drama and accusations go along with horse rescue everywhere. Guess that wouldn't be the case if we all weren't so emotionally involved. Can't believe that municipalities that do seizures then turn around and auction horses off or send to slaughter-seems that happens in Spokane County, and if I am understanding past events correctly has happened in King county too.

"Well Great NEWS the gelding has been removed from the property and is very good hands. But there are still 3 horses there. They have put the horse on craigslist.

Thanks for everyones help it was great to see all the people out there come together and make this happen. But dont get me wrong our job here is not done. We still need to get 3 more out of there before they get as bad as the Gelding one.

Can't say our A/C man/lady is not fair....They come out, give you a week to change the problem or find homes for them....
Hay is everywhere out here, so if you can buy grain, you can buy hay...
Andy, Randy and others have hay...Yes Chattaroy...150.00-200.00 a ton...Or they can pay 3-7.00 a bale...
As we told them (3 A/C) we could not take anymore, so they haven't call...
