Today my old (34) horse Doobie crossed the rainbow bridge. His poor body was tired and it was his time.

It is never easy to lose an old friend, but at 34 he must have been well-taken care of throughout his lifetime. Thank goodness for those like you that take care of their oldies up to the very end. It is a gracious gift that not everyone is willing to give.....RIP Doobie.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It was hard to go out to the barn this morning. Doobie would always talk to me the second I walked out my back door until his mash was in is bucket. Yesterday I moved Zipper up to the barn so he could have a stall and he was the one talking to me this morning. Old horses are great and I hope to get someday. Doobie was a very lucky horse as he was owned by the same family for 30 years and I had him the last four. His owners were unable to have kids so he was very much there kid. He spent lots of time hiking in the mountains. The last few years he was the babysitter for my kids, my confidence builder and the rock that grounding the herd. He will be greatly missed.

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to a dear friend. It sounds like he had a fantastic life for 34 years and I hope that helps you cope. Judging from the picture, it appears he lived in paradise with you and he was one lucky fellow.
May you find comfort in knowing you gave a horse some wonderful years. {Hugs}
