I was reading about Himalayan Rock Salt licks for horses. Does anyone use this? I've never heard of it before. Thanks Tina

Use them, love them Buy it online - it is cheaper!! It doesn't replace a good free choice mineral, but as far as salt goes- it is one of the best! Sara

The Horse Journal had an article on them a few months back. Basically the article said it's all marketing hype and they aren't worth the expense.
If you are not familiar with The Horse Journal, it's the Consumer Reports of all things horse. Best subscription I ever bought.

I like them because they don't melt as easily. I order my 5 pound ones to put int he stalls online for around $4.95 generally so - not any real additional expense What I DO notice with them - my percheron boy will lick on those when he won't touch regular blocks so the taste must be different. Again, Don't use it as your source of minerals - but for a source of salt I like them - just don't buy at the feed store or you pay an arm and a leg! I saw them at Reber Ranch for around $30!!!! WHATEVER!!!! Sara

Thanks for all the info. I bought some of the small blocks to see if they like this better then the reg. salt block, they were on sale and they were cute so I will give them a try and see what the boys think. Tina
